HASH(0x90834aec) von 5 Sternen Best preparation for international test takers 22. November 2011
Von John Green - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
Firstly, I am from South Africa, as such I have never fully experienced the Maths that the SAT Math II tests, and I wrote the subject tests during my final grade 12 exams. I still, however, managed 800 on it, and I thank this book for my score. I enjoy maths, and in terms of my own curriculum, I achieve high grades. When I looked at SAT maths for the first time, I was bewildered and confused.

I purchased this book along with Barron's SAT Math Level 2. I started off learning from Barron's, and I was completely lost. Not enough examples, ambiguous explanations and very short in length. About the only thing it was good for was the practice tests. I was lucky enough to have bought the Princeton Review Cracking The SAT Math 1 & 2 guide, and I can safely say that this is light years ahead of Barron's.

The information presented within the book is fantastic. Before writing the test, I only had a basic understanding of what was being tested, I hardly knew these sections in enough detail to take the test comfortably. The book tackles each section with amazing detail, everything is explained precisely, with plenty of examples to practice on. The notes are direct and comprehensive, and very easy to understand for someone who doesn't experience this level of maths on a daily basis.

I enjoyed that it included Math 1 information, and did not just assume you knew it well enough to move past it, thus helping to set a foundation for Math 2 studying. Even though there are only 2 practice tests for Math 2, each test had 3 sections, the test, answer key and answer explanations. The answer explanations is where I find that this book destroys Barron's. Upon marking your test and finding your score, you can have all your weaknesses and problems explained in detail to you, allowing you to build on your mistakes. I feel it is this holistic view to the practice tests that makes this book the best, in my opinion.

Considering that I started studying only 2 days before I wrote the test, and still got 800, I found that this book worked wonders. If you are an international and not studying the US curriculum I cannot recommend this book enough.

HASH(0x90836ec4) von 5 Sternen Just the thing for refreshing the maths brain 26. Juni 2011

I'm actually an older student who is getting into astronomy and physics, so this very inexpensive text book is a great way to refresh from the basics through to calculus and geometry etc. It's well laid out and easy to follow and has lots of challenging tests at each level of the course. Of course, it is aimed at school kids, but it has much wider appeal as well.

My daughter just went through this book, and really liked the structure and explanations. It was comprehensive, and the sample tests were very close to the real SAT II (the sample tests where slightly harder than the real SAT II according to her). She just took her SAT II yesterday, and she thinks she did very well because of this book.

HASH(0x90834b34) von 5 Sternen Great Value and Great Review Book 30. Juni 2011

First off, the book is much cheaper than in bookstores; you won't find a lower price, as is usual for Amazon. I used the book, and found it to be an excellent resource: topics are broken up by chapter and organized so you know not only which test a subject will appear on but how often it is likely to appear, and can study appropriately. Not only was this helpful for the SAT Subject Test, it was a great review of skills for the regular SAT Math section. Overall well-written, explained and organized.

HASH(0x90836f24) von 5 Sternen A good supplement to the college board book 30. März 2011
Von Dr. Steve Warner - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
I am a Math Professor, SAT Math tutor, and author of the GET 800 series of SAT prep books (such as "320 SAT Math Problems" and the "28 SAT Math Lessons" series) and SAT math subject test books ("320 SAT Math Subject Test Problems").

I used to use this book in addition to the Official Study Guide by the College Board. It's not ideal, but in my opinion The Princeton Review gets closer to College Board questions than most other test prep companies. Here are a few tips for those of you taking one of the SAT Math Subject Tests:

(1) Make sure you take an actual Level 1 and Level 2 test under timed conditions before deciding which one to take. Even though you may feel like you're doing awful on the Level 2 test, your scaled score may come out much higher than you think. The curve is MUCH more generous on the Level 2 test than it is on the Level 1 test.

(2) If you are preparing for the SAT, then I recommend taking the Math Subject test the month after you take the SAT. There is some overlap between the Math sections of the regular SAT and the Subject tests. So don't give yourself time to forget all the strategies you've been practicing for the regular SAT. Spend that extra month practicing SAT Subject Test problems, memorizing the extra formulas you need, and learning a few more strategies specific to the Subject Tests.

(3) All of the strategies that you learned for the SAT will be useful for the Subject Test. So make sure to implement these strategies as you practice Subject Test problems. I do plan to eventually write a strategy book for the subject tests in the future, but unfortunately that may not be for a while. In the meantime, I plan to put up an advanced SAT problem with worked solution once a week at my website (free).

(4) If you are taking the Level 2 Test, do all the problems from the Level 1 tests for extra practice. You are responsible for knowing all this material anyway.

Best of luck to those of you taking one of the SAT Math Subject Tests.
