A very well written, dark and light, witty story about the ‘coming of age’ of a witch, trapped in a toddler’s body. With some interesting and unexpected characters, some rock ‘n’ roll to relate to and some cool twists and turns, Complicated Blue is a very nice read I can highly recommend! I am already looking forward to the sequel – which is a work in progress, I hear….

This book is the second book by author PJ Whittlesea. His first one, Loreless, is also very well written, interesting and funny but has some beautiful stories in it about Australia's past. It opened up a world for me I did not know existed. Keep 'm coming PJ!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Excellent read, well written. 25. Februar 2017

This was a lovely book! The author keeps adding more and more new layers to the world of Anaïs with each chapter, and it gets more and more interesting as you read on. I really enjoyed reading a fresh take on the witchy world which isn't all quests, flying brooms and wands shooting glitter. Whittlesea manages to incorporate real life facts in such a clever way that his hidden witchworld is completely believable. The humour is quite understated but there. One of my favourite lines in the book ("This in turn has led to a proliferation of cooking programs on television") had me laughing hard because of the context it was placed in.
I'm waiting anxiously for the next book, and urge the writer to stop with silly nonsense like sleeping and eating, just get on with writing ;)
5.0 von 5 Sternen wonderfully written and at turns light and dark 21. November 2016

From the cover and title to the last word, Complicated Blue captivated me.

It's the story of a modern witch, but forget Bewitched -- the witch in question is locked in a child's body. She still has a lot to learn about being her kind, however, and that includes how to deal with "shades" (the dead whom she can see) and Grand Inquisitors.

It's original, wonderfully written and at turns light and dark. I loved it!

I enjoyed this amazing story of a wondrous witch by the name of Anais Blue, who leans the ropes in a whimsical and amusing fashion with her nanny, Nan.

Complicated Blue is a fantasy novel based in a world where all witches are not created equal, and the dead roam the streets. It is a witch’s job to help the dead find what their purpose in life was so that they can finally rest and leave the world to the living.

Our lead character Anais Blue is a witch who is trapped in the body of a five-year-old girl. As frustrating as this sounds she is given the task of helping a ghost regain their identity. Anais needs to discover her companion’s secret and true purpose before it is too late. This story leads us on an exciting and sometimes comical journey inside the witching world.

I particularly liked how the prologue explains the witching world and lets the reader know some of the truths and fallacies that surround what duties and services witches actually provide in this world. Anais’ character is developed through time, and as the book continues, we learn more of our beloved witch. It is really hard to weave together a great story with both adventure and comedic intervals, but this author leaves us both spellbound and laughing in our seat.

I found the literary standard of the work to be of good quality. The chapters and the layout of the book were well put together, and I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well-written fantasy novel.
5.0 von 5 Sternen A fun, modern-day take on witches 12. April 2017
Von Helen - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
I don’t often laugh out loud when reading books, but I did with this one! A fun, modern-day story about a teenage witch trapped in a five-year-old’s body that will appeal to people of all ages. In true Douglas Adams style, there is a running commentary explaining everything we don’t know about witches, including the reason for their primordial hatred of chickens and why they love cooking! I will also be looking out for shades in crowded places from now on. As the story develops, you get drawn into Anais’ world and wonder where it will take you. This is a completely new take on witches and magic, where broomstick riding is regarded with scorn. It is a brilliantly-written book that is a delight to read, and I look forward to reading volume 2.
