Über den Autor und weitere Mitwirkende
Herge (Georges Remi) was born in Brussels in 1907. Over the course of 54 years he completed 23 albums of The Adventures of Tintin series, which is now considered to be one of the greatest, if not the greatest, comics series of all time. With translations published in over 80 languages, more than 230 million copies sold worldwide and a Hollywood movie to its name, Tintin dominates the Comics and Graphic Novels chart even today. Sadly, Herge died in 1983, leaving his 24th album, Tintin and Alph-Art, unfinished, but his hero continues to be one of the most iconic characters in both adult and children's fiction.

imagine my surprise when this one is just as small, maybe even smaller.
The dimensions listed for this set based on the ISBN is corrected, published by Egmont.
IF the dimensions for the other set is correct, it would be bigger than this set.
And this set costs quite a bit more.
To add to the confusion, the color of the set i got looks just like the color of the less expensive set that has many more reviews, many complaining that it was printed smaller.
So i thought this newer printed set was going to be larger...i don't think it is...quite disappointed.
If i waS TO READ this with my daughter, i would definitely have to put on some reading glasses.
When i received it, i thought it was sent in error but checking the ISBN, there is no denying it.
So this set i got, looks like the other TinTin collector set, printed small if not smaller than the other set, and costs quite a bit more...very disappointing.
I think i would rather buy the larger softcover individually...atleast they are larger and easier to see.
THis set was sold via a 3rd party on amazon and costed approx one hundred fifty USD, just fyi...seems like a bargain since i don;t see it for that price any more but not really a bargain since so darn small...you have been informed.
I got this for my daughter's xmas gift...she loves and and knows no difference but even for her, i could tell reading is a bit of a strain.
Yes, the books are smaller compared to the individual paperbacks. The paperbacks are a treat to read with rich colors, large images and large font. Also, the individual paperbacks are at least $11.00 apiece.
This set, on the other hand, is an eight piece collection. All the eight books are hard bound and the entire collection comes in a pretty solid case which keeps the books well and makes it easy to carry together, gift wrap, store carefully etc.
So, yes, compared to the individual paperbacks, the books in this collection aren't quite as beautiful. If you want the paperback style fonts, size and print, pay for the paperbacks and order them individually. You'll easily spend three to five times the price!
People who complain that they are not getting the original quality with this economy edition sound like they are complaining that they Corolla isn't quite as good as a Mercedes. They are ignoring basic economics.
I bought this set for my 7 year old son and he absolutely loves it. Sometimes we have to keep it away from him just so he can read other stuff!
Now for the real review: this is a very nice set of Tintin comics, guaranteed to please anyone who enjoys comics, young and old alike. I read these growing up and immensely enjoyed them and revisit that pleasure every time I read them, even now.
The set is beautifully hard bound and should last years and years, even in careless young hands. Colors are rich. Font is a bit small, but that's a compromise that was needed to make to keep the price down.
The prices in the U.S. range from $285.99 to $499.00! Amazon U.K. lists the same product for less than $200 dollars (after converting from British Pounds to Dollars). Why is there such a huge price difference? On several other products, I had to order from another country after comparing the listed prices. I don't mind paying a few dollars more for an item listed here in the U.S. but when I see a difference of $100 to $300 dollars, I'm going to buy from the merchant that saves me such a huge difference in price.
I realize that Amazon does not set the prices charged by third party sellers. With the Internet, it only takes minutes to search for a product and to research the prices being charged. I'm going to purchase this collectors edition but not in the U.S. as long as the prices remain so high.
Update: I just purchased this collectors set from a U.S. bookseller for $125.00. It was listed on a popular auction site. During my search, I did find this exact set of books listed on other auctions for just under $300.00.
