When I started reading this book, I just could't imagine there could be anything more gripping about Umbrella than the first two books of the RE-universe. Well, I was proved wrong.
The story is really, really evil - and I wasn't able to put the book away for a minute... Some of the unforseen changes made me cry, made me scream...
Well, but telling anything would not do the story any good, so I'll better stop here.
Just so much;
The charcters are no real heros: They fear the evil, they make mistakes, they don't realise some of the things going on around them. Claire and Leon, they are so much like everyone else that you just don't know who they can possibly survive...
And I really loved the developement they make throughout this story. They aren't just "shoot and go"-charcters, and that's what makes this story so vivid and lively.
Another thing really great: The story is not only told from the viewpoint of the two main characters. You get every detail - sometimes even more than you wanna know! The "bad guys" just don't seem so black anymore, they turn a dark shade of grey... Or pitchblack? Discover for yourself...
An absolutely fascinating book you should really read.

Resident Evil City of the Dead
This is the best book that I have read in my whole life. I recommend this book to everyone who has either played the game or likes horror books. Leon Kennedy is a rookie cop. He lives for the need to protect, serve, and help the innocent. While reckless Leon is highly skilled and quilified enough to serve as a cop for the Raccoon Police Department. Claire Redfield is a light-hearted modern women. She can be a bit Tomboy at times and she is somewhat wild. Self-confident, she is the first person to try something many others would not. This book is about a secret company called Umbrella. They have created a virus called the T-Virus and it turns anybody and anything into flesh-eating monsters if taken.
As with every book there is a theme to the book I think that the author's theme to this story is that good will always win. Well at least in a video game. This book has so much detail that you can get a detailed picture of the book in your head. If you enjoy horror books, or suspense then read this book. Also play the game it is the best game for Playstation and the best game out of all systems.

Wonderful and Superb. I love the game and love the novel. It goes much deeper into the characters lives by the multipe P.O.V.'s presented. I gave this book only 4 stars because most of the puzzles and rooms aren't included the story. This is NOT a put down. I just wanted to draw attention to the fact. If S.D. Perry had included everything like with "Umbrella Conspiracy", the book would be incredibly thick and dull.
Some readers claim that the Res. Evil novels are not "scary enough". If you played the game then you already know what to expect. Does one need to see all 9 "Friday the 13th" movies to know Jason murders all jabronies that enter his forest? No, you don't. Read (and buy) these novels to explore the new depths of the RE world, not for fear. I highly recommend reading all 4 novels.

I have been reading the Resident Evil series since they started bringing out the book versions of the game. I like the fact that Ms. Perry writes her books as if you are actually there with the characters, taking part in the action. I read a lot of science fiction and fantasy, and this series is well-written enough to actually draw the reader into the story and make him/her feel what the characters are feeling. Many books can leave the reader feeling cut off from the action because they don't provide enough description or make descriptions so wordy that the reader gets "lost in the English." I really enjoy the way Ms. Perry develops her characters and describes their feelings and actions. She doesn't make her setting up of the story tedious or too wordy. I only wish more authors could write as well as she does.

For anyone who has played Resident Evil 2 whether the PlayStation version or the N64 version then this book may be worth only a couple of read throughs. For people who haven't played the game but love horror movies, or books then this is definitely worth the money. The reason that even those who have played the game to the bitter end and know the plot, it's nice to read the novel and be able to understand exactly how everything fits together. The only problem that I had with the book is that the author has side stepped the majority of the puzzles that are in the game, but this is understandable considering how long the book would be otherwise. Overall this book is worth the purchase and there shouldn't be a person out there that claims to be a Resident Evil fan and doesn't have this book.
