Kurzbeschreibung

As a forensic nurse on a search and rescue team, Brynn Nealey braves a dangerous blizzard to find the survivors of a plane crash in the Cascade Mountains. Joining her is Alex Kinton, a former US marshal with self-destructive tendencies. Alex lies his way onto Brynn’s team to find the man who killed his brother—and then administer his own brand of vigilante justice. But once the team members reach the plane’s wreckage, they discover everyone aboard has perished…except for the man Alex is hunting. Alex will do whatever it takes to track his target through the vast, snowy wilderness.

As the temperatures drop, however, so do Alex’s defenses. His contact with the sharp, kindhearted Brynn makes his lust for vengeance difficult to reconcile with his growing feelings for a woman who risks her life to help others. What will happen to Alex’s savage instincts when he finally has the opportunity to confront his brother’s killer?

In Chilled, the next thrilling tale in the Bone Secrets saga, Golden Heart finalist Kendra Elliot weaves an icy tale of cold nights, cold hearts, and cold-blooded killers.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Chilling in All Senses of the Word 5. August 2012
Von K. M. Martin - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Vine Kundenrezension eines kostenfreien Produkts ( Was ist das? )
A snowstorm in March. The rugged Cascade Mountains. A plane crash with two pilots, a US Marshal and a serial killer aboard. Brynn, a nurse on a search and rescue team, and her teammates have to try to see if there is anyone they can save. Former US Marshal Alex Kinton lies his way onto the team. He was fired as a US Marshal but he is convinced that the serial killer - Darrin Besand - killed his mentally handicapped brother. He is self-destructive and determined on revenge.

As the team travels into the mountain they need to battle the weather and the rugged terrain to get to the plane crash. There they discover that the pilots and the Marshal are dead but Besand is missing. One of the team is hurt and the weather keeps them from leaving immediately. Alex wants to stay alone to search for Besand by Brynn isn't going to let that happen. She isn't going to leave him with a serial killer in the area. Add in an avalanche that almost kills Alex and causes the team to lose half their packs and the danger keeps increasing.

Just to complicate things further Alex is convinced that someone in the Marshal's Office is trying to let Besand escape. The arguments Alex had with his superior about the lax guarding of Besand led to his being fired. And Alex is right. His corrupt superior officer has sent his own team of two Marshals into the mountains too with orders to kill Alex.

This was is filled with tension and danger. Brynn, who has ended a relationship with someone who wants to smother her, is surprised to feel attraction to Alex. And when Liam - her smothering boyfriend - joins the group after he and his brother crash their helicopter while searching for the rescue team, she has to deal with the tensions between Liam and Alex.

Fans of thrillers will enjoy this story and the budding relationship between Alex and Brynn. Watching Alex come to terms with his brother's death and become reacquainted with his values because of contact with kind and dedicated Brynn made this a very satisfying story. And Darrin is a really creepy villain. Being empty of emotion himself, he causes pain and kills so that he can feel something. He has been getting high off Alex's pain for a while but is determined to kill him now. Even on a hot August day, this one sent chills up my spine.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Search And Rescue Meets Romance 14. Oktober 2012
Von Brett H - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
Chilled is something of a hybrid. On one hand the main plot centres around a search and rescue team who go out into the icy wilds to locate a small aircraft which has gone down with four people on board. These include a homicidal convict who is being transported. The other main aspect is the increasing attraction between two members of the team, Brynn the nurse and Alex, a former US marshall who has wangled his way into the team with a certain amount of misrepresentation.

As far as the thriller aspect of this tale goes, the plot is well thought out by the author and has an interesting twist in that Alex and the killer have a history and there are various flashbacks to their previous dealings with each other. The psychological angles of their relationship are explored in some depth and this is one of the more interesting aspects of this book. The search and rescue does develop at rather a slow pace and after three hundred pages or so, not a whole lot has really happened although I thought that the icy cold setting was very realistically described so that the reader could almost feel they were there. However the story does take off at a frenetic pace from that point.

My personal reading preferences are for good, solid thrillers and I do not choose to read much in the way of romantic fiction. Hence from my viewpoint the blossoming affair between Brynn and Alex was rather a distraction from what I considered the main story. Others may view it as main point of this book depending on their literary tastes. Alex sums it all up at one point when he comments that he has been obsessing over Brynn to such an extent that he has not even thought about the homicidal maniac roaming around outside for hours. Personally I found this a tad unlikely.

If you like fast moving thrillers as I do, then you will probably find this interesting in parts but rather slow moving and may consider Brynn and Alex's relationship a distraction. If you prefer love stories you will probably think this book well rounded, and consider the rescue as the setting for a good love story. I imagine that should you be keen on both genres you may well think you are in heaven and this will definitely be Five Star material for you!

4.0 von 5 Sternen Truly Chilling . . . 27. Juli 2012
Von Auntie Annie - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Vine Kundenrezension eines kostenfreien Produkts ( Was ist das? )
I read and enjoyed Hidden, also a Bone Secrets Novel. I expected this to be a sequel, furthering the same characters. It was not. However, this book is equally spell binding as the other. (Kudus to Kendra Elliot.) Chilled begins with a plane crash in the Cascades. A serial killer, being transported to another state survives the crash that kills a federal marshal and both pilots. The local mountain rescue team (four people) goes in, only to encounter a blizzard. The escaped killer is hunting an ex-marshal attached to the team. The head of the marshall service sends in a two man team. Two dare-devil pilots attempt an ill advised rescue on their own. Fighting each other, cold, and an avalanche, most of the group survives. How they manage to do that is an edge-of-your-seat thriller that will keep you reading late into the night.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Outdoor Elements Unrealistic 20. September 2012
Von an avid reader - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Vine Kundenrezension eines kostenfreien Produkts ( Was ist das? )
This is not a bad read, beginning with a plane crashing in the Cascades while transporting a violent criminal. The concept is good, but the dangers from the impending snowstorm and outdoor elements are minimized far too much. Much of what transpires is just not realistic in view of the environment in which itoccurs. The local rescue team goes in, one of whom is a woman with a non-rescue trained dog! What? This is not an afternoon stroll, it is a rescue operation. She has fear issues, and the rest of the teams spends a lot of time taking care of her. Another man who isn't trained in outdoor survival cons his way onto the team to go in after the convict. Almost to far-fetched to enjoy, considering that only the best of severe-weather, survival-trained people could pull off such a rescue in that country and weather. If you can accept the light-hearted approach to 5 people on foot in a mountain blizzard, it will fill a few hours for you.

1.0 von 5 Sternen Awful--returned for refund. 25. August 2014
Von Gotta Tellya - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
There is an intriguing premise behind this book, one with lots of potential--none of which was realized. The author's descriptions of characters and their behaviors are deadly dull, repetitive and cheesy. The story line is drowning in phrases re raised/lowered/narrowed eyebrows, clenched jaws and teeth, popping neck veins, lip-biting, lip-licking, neck tendons taut as "bungee cords," hot/cold eyes, shaking/nodding heads, "...met him with her eyes," and many more amateur applications of the English language. I tried to put aside my annoyance over the poor descriptions to focus on the story line. But that proved impossible. The plot jumps all over the place. The rare action scenes are interrupted and then ruined by flashbacks and the lengthy thought processes of the characters. And there were too many impossibilities woven into the story. My favorite was the serial killer's magical status as the sole survivor of the crash of his transport plane, as well as his endurance of night after night in the snow without shelter--warmed, I suppose, by his obsession with a member of the search and rescue team, a former government agent who was equally obsessed with him. While the rescue party is aware that this killer might be lurking nearby, they fail to mount an immediate search for him. And while that corresponds with the not too bright nature of the human characters, they are accompanied by a dog, which spent a great deal of time and energy exploring their surroundings. The dog should have caught the killer's scent early on and having done so, would have alerted the group. One improbable flashback scene has the former agent accidentally stabbing his boss with a letter opener. Nothing in that scene was remotely realistic.

I purchased the Audible version of "Chilled." The narrator did a good job of altering her voice when portraying different characters. But her narration of the story itself was painful. I don't think the narrator can be blamed. She could only do so much with the material she was hired to read.

I returned my audio purchase of this book well before reaching the end. I feel relieved. Some reviewers liked "Chilled." We all have our preferences and our limits of tolerance. And that's OK. The world would be a dull place if we all agreed on everything
