3.0 von 5 Sternen Definitely worth a look 20. Februar 2015
Von Don Kidwell - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
Well-done illustrations and plenty of them! I enjoyed the tale more so than the rhymes largely because it was a story I had not heard before. Book could be formatted a tad better since bottom half of sentance was absent below one picture panel making it impossible to read. Otherwise I would be curious as to what becomes in the continuing saga "Chevalier the Queen's Mouseketeer: For Queen and Country." Good book!

Thanks anyways. Good luck, fare there well

4.0 von 5 Sternen A lovely read, if you have a color Kindle 16. Juli 2013
Von Yealurowluro - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

This graphic novel is gorgeous. Set in the magical land of the Hither and Yon and its equally magical neighbors, Monique McNaughton's artwork nicely complements Darrell Hughes' tale of a young mouse who yearns to be a hero and how he gets his start, despite his tiny stature. As becomes obvious by the end, this is but the beginning of a series; Chevalier is going to have all the opportunity for derring do he ever wanted, and maybe even more than he bargained for. :) I certainly intend to be along for the rest of his adventures.

One warning - this book was designed for and effectively has to be read on a Kindle if you are to get the full effect. Like most graphic novels, it does not display to advantage on anything smaller (my Droid came out hideously), and even Cloud Reader looks a bit sketchy. And it's not available for PCs, even with the app. But if you've got the Kindle, by all means give Chevalier a try!

5.0 von 5 Sternen A fairy tale of enor-mouse proportions!!! 18. September 2013
Von Alice L. Hughes - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
When I happily stumbled upon the online comic "Chevalier: The Queen's Mouseketeer" which forms the foundation of the book "Chevalier the Queen's Mouseketeer: The Hither and Yon" I enjoyed reading that it's creators writer Darryl Hughes and artist Monique MacNaughton describe it as "The Princess Bride meets the Lord of the Rings in a Disney/Pixar movie written in Dr.Seuss rhyme starring a mouse". And I couldn't agree more.

First of all the book is beautiful. Perfectly square to fit nicely into little hands, with high glossy, full color pages that really bring out the timeless quality of both MacNaughton's illustrations and Hughes' modern take on the classic fairy tale.

Set in the fairy tale land of the Hither and Yon, where people live side by side with talking animals, elves, dwarves, fairies, unicorns, and other mythological creatures, complete with a fairy tale princess, and yes, even a handsome prince charming (literally) to woo her. But when the fairy tale turns darker and the safety of the princess is put into jeopardy, it isn't prince Charming but a young blacksmith mouse named Chevalier, who dreams of a life of high adventure as a dashing "mouseketeer" to the dismay of his studious brother and the delight of his young nephew, who answers the heroes call to save the princess and stop the coming war between two kingdoms.

Reading this book reminded me of when I was young and saw the old classic Disney movies like "Snow White", The sword in the stone", and others for the first time. Chevalier is a simple story, told in a timeless manner that has scope, and depth, and even a sense of grandeur in both the storytelling and the artwork that fairy tales and children's stories had long ago. It doesn't talk down to it's reader whether that's a 4 year old reading their very first book, an 8 year old looking for their next new book, or a parent reading it to entertain their kids at storytime. Chevalier simply seeks to entertain it's reader. And if that reader is you, then entertained you will be. Just like me.

Looking forward to book two. :)

3.0 von 5 Sternen Potential 5 Star. Rhyming Style Didn't Work For Me 13. Januar 2015
Von Ann de Vries - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
The illustrations in this book were lovely. The font was attractive but I found it distracting and very difficult to read. The storyline was interesting and very good, but I found the rhyming style did not work. It seemed to make the phrasing stilted and awkward. Not everyone has the same tastes, but I think this book would have been five stars if written in prose form and told as a story for an adult or older child to read aloud, or as an 'I Can Read' type of story for younger children to read. I'm sorry if this review distresses the author, but this was my honest reaction to the book.
