After months of struggling to stay within points on Weight Watchers and making just too many concessions I bought this book. I think if I was to ever meet up with these authors I would probably burst into tears and thank them. Not only are most of these meals inexpensive and easy to prepare, but each meal ranges about the same calorie intake so you can have whatever recipe strikes your fancy for that meal. Another reason I would start crying: I have yet to be hungry. I have managed to stay within the portion sizes and not once did I get hungry enough to jump off the menu. Most days I don't even eat the snack that is allowed. I would never, ever have thought that a piece of rye toast, almond butter and a banana would keep me satisfied for up to 6 hours. I don't get weak or shaky from getting too hungry too fast. Within 2 days of starting the program every craving I had vanished. For the first time in a long time I feel like I am controlling the food versus the food controlling me. I also noticed a wave of energy without that afternoon/evening drop. I am staying up an extra hour and half without impact. Sometimes I have so much energy I can't be still. Another plus for those who are on a budget and short on time, most of these recipes are fast and quite of few of them use the same ingredients or an ingredient can be substituted easily for one that you have already bought. The best part of this whole thing is I can have my morning egg sandwich and cheese. The only thing I had to change was from a bagel to rye bread. Losing my egg sandwich was a deal breaker for me and why I left WW. Seriously, I am so happy to be losing weight and feeling full after every meal, I could cry.

*February 9, 2013*: I just finished my first month on the CarbLover's Diet. After following the book fairly strictly, I've lost 12lbs. While I wouldn't go so far as to say "you never feel hungry," the portions are filling and your body adapts to eating less than it's used to. Let's be honest, if you're consuming close to 2,000 calories a day and then spend a week eating 1,200 calories, you're going to feel hungry! But it's not bad and it's only the first week. That being said I lost 8lbs that first week! I'm following the plan for another 4 months to get down to my goal weight, and I feel confident in doing that with this regimen.

As a culinary school graduate whose taken nutrition courses, I can tell you that this is a very safe, healthy and smart diet. It doesn't deprive you. It's realistic. This is the type of diet people should follow because it focuses on healthful food habits, portion sizes, and it doesn't demonize foods. You don't have to feel guilty for eating a little chocolate or dessert.

There are very similar diets and programs out there, but I personally liked this one because you make your own food. You're not purchasing food from a program. It also guides you on making your own recipes and making smart, realistic choices at restaurants that you can see yourself doing.

I highly recommend downloading the premium app ($4.99 through the App Store) as a quick-reference so you're not carrying the book around. Especially in the grocery store. I also recommend using the app MyFitnessPal to confirm the calories for each recipe. While the book gives you a good estimate on each meal's nutritional information, I've found that depending on the brands you buy, they can range between +-30 to +-100 calories.

One of the other reviewers here commented that if you an get through the cheerleader/diet magazine language, it's actually a good book. I agree with this 100%. As you read through the first few chapters you'll roll your eyes at the pep-talks and the language that is set to convince you that this will work.

I'm cynical, and as I went into this I was mentally preparing myself for not reaching the goals the book said I would. I've never dieted in my life, and I was embarrassed at even purchasing this book. But due to a hip problem that required surgery, I had gained 40lbs that needed to be lost without exercise. I didn't expect to lose 6lbs in the first week like the book said I would. I didn't expect to lose another 6 lbs after 3 weeks. But I said, let's give it a shot. Well, I lost 8lbs the first week and another 4lbs in the following 3 weeks.

If you're committed and diligent, this diet does work. I recommend being realistic, though. You might not lose weight the second week because you increase your calorie intake the second week. Your weight loss might not be rapid if you're working out and building a lot of muscle (muscle is heavier than fat). I have to say, though, the results of this diet have made me very excited. I feel great, I'm a total advocate of the book, I'm healed and energized enough to workout and I'm super excited to get back to my original weight in time for bikini season!

*2014 Update*: I wanted to post my progress with this diet. I started CarbLovers on January 14th, 2013. By March 30th I'd lost 23.4 lbs. In April, an unexpected event occurred that caused me to need to take a break from CarbLover's for 3 weeks. I made healthful decisions, but did not follow CarbLover's, did not track my calories, and barely worked out. I restarted CarbLovers on May 13th with the 7-Day Slim Down and am now back on the 21-Day Immersion. When I weighed in on May 19th, I'd lost 4 more lbs, bringing me to 27.4 lbs lost since January 14th. If that's not proof that this diet works, I don't know what is!

*2016 Update*: 3 years of CarbLovers, 40.3 lbs total lost. I still say this isn't a "diet," it's a smart, healthy way of thinking about food and proportions. I love this because it doesn't demonize food. I can have carbs, I can have desserts, I can enjoy cocktails. I follow CarbLovers, I take 1-2 "cheat" days per week, I exercise 6 days/week, I record my calories in the MyFitnessPal App, and I confirm my serving sizes and recipe proportions with a digital food scale. I can't say enough about this book and its supplement!

I gave this book 5 stars because it changed by diet life over night. I had been on Atkins (it works), and a version of Dukan (it works too)...,for nearly four weeks. I was definitely losing weight, BUT, I was so moody (that's a nice way to put it), I was chronically fatigued from no carb fuel, and had a very flat affect. With a deep sigh, I knew I needed carbs, but was so afraid to put a bite in my mouth. As I was reading about 'Atkins attitude', I ran across this book. It's fabulous! The first day on the 7 day Kickstart,I thought I was in heaven... Apples, rye crisp, banana, granola bars?! I was so afraid the next day that my weight would be up, nope, down! My mental state has improved drastically! And, so has my energy level. if you're afraid of carbs, I highly recommend this book. Really great, very easy meals (with recipes).

This book was represented on the Rachael Ray show and really got my interest. (Went to Amazon because it was cheaper than book stores). I have never found a diet or eating plan to loose weight that I could stick with until now.I am definately a "carb person" and its always been my downfall...until now! I love this book, it is so informative and makes so much sense. I love 98% of the meals and this is something I feel I can stay with. (Only 98% because I don't like salmon!) If you are a carb lover, you really can eat a lot of the foods you love and lose weight. If you have the dreaded "belly fat" that most of us do, it starts attacking that the first week. The book revolves around restricked carbs which are carbs that don't digest in the lower intestine and help to flush out fat. You just have to read it to learn how all of this works. The meals they give you are great, and you also get a list of alternate meals like frozen meal options & fast foods like from Wendy's & Subway, etc. The changes you have to make are not bad at all..I have even found quite a few recipes and food suggestions I would never normally have even thought would be good, to actually be really good! This is one lifestyle change that I CAN make and stay with. LOVE this book! Recommend it to all carb lovers who have found it hard to impossible to lose weight and maintain...you can and will now!

I noticed this book sitting on the table at a relative's home and started skimming through it! I was almost instantly hooked on the fresh concepts, great recipes, and believable success stories I read. When I got home later that day I ordered the book on Amazon.com and literally devoured it when it arrived two days later. I am already fully engaged in this eating plan and I am already down a full size!! I am not hungry with this plan due to the inclusion of these "resistant carbs" and I am eating simple, inexpensive food which is easy to prepare. One bonus is that the new oatmeal with diced apples and raisins offered at Mickie D's fits this plan perfectly [how convenient is that!!]

If you have been frustrated with your weight loss and need a fresh start get this book. I love it and so will you!
