Aquaponics is a method of growing fish and vegetables in a simple recirculating system. This book is designed and written to provide basic information and direction for people interested in building a backyard aquaponics system. It is NOT a "how-to" manual listing parts and with step-by-step procedures, but it's more like a conversation that you might have with a good friend about how he built his system. It is written to be easily understandable and includes lots of pictures and graphics.

Über den Autor und weitere Mitwirkende

Born in 1962, Anthony Faircloth grew up in the farm country of East Central Indiana where he had the space to roam the country-side, camp and practice a variety of outdoor skills. After graduating from Wes-Del High School in 1980 he tried a year of college then in 1982 Anthony joined the United States Navy Submarine Service where he eventually rose to become a submarine qualified Fire Control Technician, Petty Officer 1st Class. He married his wife Gail in 1983 and was blessed with their son, Samuel in 1993. After learning computer electronics in the Navy he left naval service in 1993 and transferred his skills into business analysis and began working for a government contractor in the Pensacola, Florida area where he presently lives. Anthony raises vegetables and herbs in raised bed gardens, bantam chickens for eggs, and rabbits for meat. He also continues to manage a large aquaponics system on the grounds of his church in Pensacola, and he continues to research, design and build various low-tech, sustainability projects.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Learning More About Aquaponics 11. April 2013
Von Mike Grant - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Taschenbuch
Unlike a typical how-to guide, Faricloth approaches aquaponics by sharing his experiences in building these systems. Faricloth is very knowledgeable and does provides general directions and orientation to the reader by sharing his triumphs and missteps. If you're into aquaponics and want to know more, you'll find this helpful. Do note this book is very quick read. For more in-depth information, check out Freshwater Aquaculture: A Handbook for Small Scale Fish Culture in North America.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Conversing, not dictative. 30. Januar 2013
Von Mark K. - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Taschenbuch
This is a unique book in that Mr. Faircloth has obviously built the systems he is writing about. What struck me different about this book is it was like talking to someone who built the thing instead of project book you would get at a home improvement store. The style was very conversational and sprinkled with lessons learned through out the whole book like don't glue something together until the system has been running a few days.

If you are looking for a cookie cutter project book don't buy this book. If you want a fun, easy read book on how aquaponics works and a description of what this guy has actually built, plus the lessons learned from hands on experience, this is the BOOK!

2.0 von 5 Sternen Building An Aquaponics System 9. Juni 2013

"Building An Aquaponics System" should be titled "Building An Aquaponics System: One mans journey with no actual instructions". It was a ok read but not what I was expecting from the title.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Good for the beginner DIY. 22. September 2013
Von Mary T. - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Taschenbuch
I built my first system using this book. I have little plumbing or building knowledge but was able to to construct Project #1 with little trouble. My system has been running for a little over a year with huge success. I was so happy with the project I built a 2nd larger system which has been running without issue with the design. This is not a step by step guided plan but provides all the needed basic essentials for the system to run properly. Get The Aquaponic Gardener book by Sylvia Bernstein and you can design your own system. I liked it.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Good and Fun overview book 13. August 2012
Von Keng - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Taschenbuch
I personally know the author and his personality and tone are truely represented in this book. He has a true passion for self sustainability and has taught me a thing or two about small farming and organics. This past winter I had the opportunity to tour the larger system he describes in his book and it is quite impressive. At the time, there were several large fish in the massive tank and I think some herbs growing in the green house.

Now about the book:

The book stays away from the super scientific stuff and is more about the how-to with some of the why. What I liked mostly was the idea that the aquaponic system design does not have to be set in stone; meaning there is more than one way to design and build a system. What is stressed however, are the pricinples behind aquaponics and some of the pitfalls and gotchas that the author has personally experienced. Also, The conversationalist tone of the book made it appear as if the author was speaking directly to me which I think is appropriate for the subject at hand. I have yet to build an aquaponic system, but it is on my list of many many things to do.
