This book is a very helpful guide to launching a musical career--a general "road map," to use the author's words. As I write this review, I find that the book was more complete and helpful than I had thought at first. Lots of very detailed suggestion, with tips/links on what to do next. I appreciated the benefit of his years of experience and wisdom. Some of the highlights:

♦ The author does not paint a rosy picture of the work that will be required. I appreciated the realistic view of things. It seems apparent that the author really knows what he's talking about.

♦ Table of Contents: Very detailed, easy to follow, helpful

♦ Very detailed discussion on how to find a producer. I had not thought of that.

♦ "If you want to achieve success within the music industry, you will need to become an expert in relating to people." Encouraging ways to better network. It's clear that that is a major step to focus on.

♦ Get a voice teacher: "Having a professional teacher with years of experience is the best way to go."

♦ "Hire a lawyer, hire a lawyer!" Good advice for getting contracts written/checked.

♦ 2nd Best Tip of the Book: "Whenever you have a show, always try to have someone take photos and video record."

♦ 1st Best Tip of the Book: "The reason so many artists are imprisoned in this lifestyle is due to the fact that they spend their time creating, but put little to no effort into actually promoting their creation."

♦ Index: None. Would have been a little helpful, but not a biggie.

√ All in all, an excellent guide; far more extensive that I would have thought. Recommend!
5.0 von 5 Sternen Eye-Opening! A Must Read for all aspiring artists, musicians, and producers 9. Juni 2014

I am really enjoying reading this book. This book totally changes your whole view of the" starving artist" that people think they need to be to follow their musical passion. No one really tells you how to get there or what steps you should take to become successful in the music business...until now! Andrae Alexander really spells it out in a way that is easy to understand. A key part of the book is not just reading it, but also doing writing exercises that require you to really develop your vision. I always said I would love to perform and make a living doing it. The very first writing exercise in the book asks you to specify what you want, what you actually see in your vision. I had never been asked to write out my vision in such a detailed way so it's really helping me to figure out where I see myself. I am eager to continue reading. I can see myself reading and re-reading this book because the information in it is so rich.

There are things in your life that are meant to be, they show up at any given time.

This book was one of them for me. I found this book accidentally while I was looking for biographies in the music section of Amazon. My purpose was to find inspiration to guide me in my journey of making a full time living in music. And I found a gold mine, way better than a biography. The most miraculous thing was that it was out up for free (at the time I discovered it).

This book is like the set of instructions you wish life came with. From other sources, I've read about the material in each chapter but this book encapsulates all of it in one guide.

Thank you, Andrae. I hope to thank you in person one day.
