Kurzbeschreibung

Buddhism is all about training the mind, and boot camp is an ideal training method for this generation's short attention span. The chapters in this small book can be read in any order, and are simple and easy to understand. Each story, inspirational quote, and teaching offers mindfulness-enhancing techniques that anyone can relate to. You don't need to be a Buddhist to find the Buddha's teachings motivational. As the Dalai Lama says, "Don't try to use what you learn from Buddhism to be a Buddhist; use it to be a better whatever-you-already-are."

So whether it's Mother Teresa's acts of charity, Gandhi's perseverance, or your aunt Betty's calm demeanor, as long as you're motivated to be better today than you were yesterday, it doesn't matter who inspires you. Regardless of religion, geographical region, race, ethnicity, color, gender, sexual orientation, age, ability, flexibility, or vulnerability, if you do good you feel good, and if you do bad you feel bad.

Buddhism isn't just about meditating. It's about rolling up your sleeves to relieve some of the suffering in the world. If you are ready to be a soldier of peace in the army of love, welcome to Buddhist Boot Camp!

… would describe the book as well and then again, it would be a very misleading title.
The boot camp bit is very important – it means, that you can instantly feel and (most important) LIVE buddhism.
Buy and get ready to get your spiritual ass kicked. This book is awesome.

HASH(0x9eed5cf0) von 5 Sternen Helpful and Inspirational 4. Juni 2012
Von Nancy Thompson - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

In my World Religion class at my high school we have learned about Buddhism and I was immediately drawn to it because it was all about looking within and finding peace and tranquility, I believe that this book demonstrates all of those characteristics that I love about Buddhism. As I am suffering from a personal dilemma lately I now more than ever look to this book for guidance about how I should view my life and this situation. This book tells us that we must follow thoughts of love and avoid those of fear, it also tells us to train our mind and not succumb to cravings, which this book calls "Uncontrollable Urges." One of my favorite sections of this book talk about how flowers continue to smell lovely even if we do not stop to smell them, and how the sun continues to shine even if we do not appreciate its beauty - so the book advises that we continue to spread love unconditionally and be kind even if those around us to not notice. Another important message that this book gave me was that "the opposite of what you know is also true" this means that we must accept other opinions and reasons for doing things because we do not understand other's circumstances and they might call for different plans of actions then ours do. I love the writing of this book because as other comments said it can be read in any order and it does not require endless sessions of reading, if someone simply wants to hear a few words of wisdom, inspiration or support they can look to this book, read a few of the two page chapters and be uplifted. This is perfect kind of religion book in my opinion, because instead of forcing certain ideals or telling the history it gives relatable advice that is both relevant to the religion of Buddhism as well as to simply having a good and caring life.

HASH(0x9ec90738) von 5 Sternen This book is my bible 10. Januar 2013
Von Mary Ann Martin - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
I am not a religious person. Three years ago something happened in my life that was horrific for me personally. About the same time I was co teaching a World History class and we learned about Buddhism and it's philosophy. I did further research on this topic and it all made sense to me. Then in 2012 I found Buddhist Boot Camp on Facebook and Timber had no idea how he changed my life. Obviously I purchased his book and this has been my bible. When life gets me down and I am feeling sad/ anger, I turn to this book and reread it. A very short book thus easy reading. Once I practice AGAIN what Timber talks about, I feel better about myself and happier. I just purchased it for a very close person who is going thru some rough times. Hope she finds her inner peace like I found mine.
Namaste.

This is a fantastic little book. Timber presents Buddhist principles in short, simple chapters that give anyone of any faith some tools to try to live a more serene & enlightened life. This small tome should be on everyone's bookshelf - or better yet, in their hands being read!

HASH(0x9eb1724c) von 5 Sternen Disappointing 15. Mai 2014
Von Siba - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

I bought this mainly based on the glowing Amazon reviews, and that did not prove to be a wise choice.

This book is more of a self help/life coach book than it is a zen buddhism book. The author actually quotes himself alongside Ghandi, and Timber's quotes sound like they belong in a fortune cookie. He gives some insight into his translation of zen, and then proceeds to contradict what zen actually is throughout the book. One should not rely on possessions and money for happiness, but one should rely on a location and recreational activity for it?

His way to fulfillment is to move to a beautiful location and have more free time for recreation by moving to Hawaii and only working 20 hours a week, so he can "live more". Is Buddha unattainable for someone living in Camden or Detroit, and working 40+ hours a week? Zen can be practiced by anyone anywhere, and it is not about where you live any more than it is about what you posses. If you are a coal miner working 60 hours a week, you too can practice zen and be content. Be the best coal miner you can be for those 60 hours a week and this will bring contentment. One's situation or location does not disqualify them from knowing Buddha and being content. The fact that Timber somehow confuses being happy and content with his situation with being happy and content "just being", demonstrates that he is fundamentally out of touch with what he is trying to teach.

I really enjoyed Brad Warner's Hardcore Zen.

Here is a quote for Timber's next book: If one is not content where they are, then they can never know contentment.

HASH(0x9ec90858) von 5 Sternen Awesome Book 3. Juni 2013
Von CJ - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

I like the format of the book and it's readability. It's basically vignettes regarding day to day instances where Buddhist philosophy can offer a humbled perspective on the drudgery of everyday life. Definitely a refreshing read. I also like that the author sought out a sort of secular/simplified interpretation of Buddhist practice because it makes his lessons relevant to all creeds and beliefs.
