Kurzbeschreibung

More horror from Troy Blackford, author of 'Strange Way Out,' 'For Those With Eyes to See,' 'Critical Incident,' and more. A combination of terrifying chills and ridiculous laughs so unusual that you'll be crying your eyes out with humor even as you cower under your sheets out of sheer dread for your imagination's sanity. Answers the question 'What's it like to be scared out of your wits while laughing yourself to the point of drooling?' with a resounding 'Very good, sir.'

"A great job entwining humor with sheer horror."
"The author has taken the genre of horror up several great notches."
"Absolute delight and perfection.... a truly enjoyable book."
"Seldom did I laugh so much while reading a story."
"Another surefire winner from Troy Blackford."
"A horror twist on P.G. Wodehouse."
"I laughed myself silly through this... horror tome."

On what seems to be a perfectly ordinary night, young Broderick 'Brodie' Booster flips on the evening news to find that New York City has been overrun by hundreds of thousands of reanimated corpses. After a visit from his previously dead Aunt Gertie, Booster and his manservant Reeves make a quick trip to a hardware store to outfit themselves with decent zomboidal defenses, and set out on a harrowing trek across town to confront the thieving maid responsible for the hordes of the undead.

Every step of the way, they encounter the unusual, the sinister, the depraved, and the hilarious. From irritable diva news reporters to crab-like zombies and arachnid pooches, things go from weird to worse. Without the help of the unflappable Reeves, the ditsy Brodie would have been munched for what there was of his brains long ago. But, even together, are they a match for the ancient evil fueling this dark 'Night of the Revenants?'

Broderick "Brodie" Booster and his valet Reeves, who likes to describe himself as a gentleman's gentleman, are the heroes of this story.
The objective is to get rid of the "revenants" which is just a polite euphemism for full-fleged zombies in varying states of rot & decay, out there to eat you.

If you happen to know the 'Jeeves and Wooster' stories by P.G. Wodehouse, you almost know the two main characters of this novella. But I bet those two never had to deal with the undead. Well, our chaps are facing this very problem and are going to tackle it in their own inimitable style (and with the help of a jaw saw I still stand in awe of). What there is to do, they learn from Booster's aunt Gertrude, who has a little handicap: She is already dead for two weeks when she enters the stage.

Troy Blackford has decided to bring together these two different genres and by doing so he hit the the center of my humor, spot on. Seldom did I laugh so much while reading a story. Anyone who has a shred of black humor should read this read. I sincerely hope that the two characters will be back some day experiencing more hilarious adventures like this.

5.0 von 5 Sternen What ho, zombies? Are you mad? 29. September 2013
Von K A Silva - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

I sincerely hope Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie read this book.

Any of you who've ever seen their wonderful versions of the P.D. Wodehouse books will immediately get the joke, in less time than it takes Bertie to down a tumbler of gin. All throughout this undead romp, I heard Fry's and Laurie's voices in my head with every line of dialogue from "Reeves" and "Booster." Of course, you don't have to be familiar with the comedy duo, or even Wodehouse, to enjoy this story, but it does add to the experience significantly.

Modern gadabout Booster can't be bothered to look outside of his FPS xbox games until zombies rise from their graves and his recently-deceased auntie barges in to demand that the wastrel DO something about all of it. Aided by his faithful manservant Reeves (in something along the lines of a 5% Booster to 95% Reeves ratio), Booster sets out into a city teeming with brain-munching corpses, and carnage and hilarity commence, by Jove!

There is satisfyingly bloody zombie-slaughter, eyerolling aplenty from Reeves, and stunningly blithe ignorance aplenty by young Booster. As a fan of the stories Mr Blackford is parodying, I jolly well laughed my bottom off continually. HIGHLY recommended for anyone familiar with Wodehouse, and a great read for anyone who just loves zombies.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Must-read for fans of Wodehouse or zombies 27. Januar 2014

Okay, yes, so the zombie thing is quickly becoming overused. Zombies are everywhere right now, and you'll be perfectly within your rights to feel exhausted at the idea of yet another zombie novel.

Just... just wait until *after* you read Night of the Revenants, okay?

Troy Blackford does a perfect job imitating P.G. Wodehouse's Wooster and Jeeves series in this modern twist on the characters. With Booster and Reeves, Blackford has the dialogue and mannerisms down pat. Only thing missing would be an unwanted arranged engagement for Booster (and to be honest, I thought the story was heading there at one point).

Yes, the characters work perfectly well in the modern day, and yes, they worked so well together that I always pictured Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry (famous for their depictions of the original Wooster and Jeeves) in the parts. The zombies are just different enough to make them more interesting than the usual shamblers, and while events might move a little too quickly for my taste, that's only because I wanted more time with our reluctant heroes.

So what of it, Mr. Blackford? Maybe Booster and Reeves could take on those horribly unmannered vampires next?

5.0 von 5 Sternen So much zombiness!!! 21. September 2013

This story is so much fun! The word play is excellent. Writing is crisp, witty and easy flowing. Characters are easy to get to know and definitely have their own personalities. The best part? The surprise ending. This was my first book to read by Troy. I was only half way through this free one when I purchased two others. He is THAT good.

5.0 von 5 Sternen The Best thing since Zombieland 22. September 2013

There probably is an unwritten rule about using `Delightful' and `Zombie' in the same sentence, but I am going to break it. Booster & Reeves: Night of the Revenants is a delightful romp through a zombie infested tale filled with wacked out humor and wonderfully zany characters.

Blackford's nod to P.G. Wodehouse is a little morsel everyone should savor. So...download this book, pour yourself the libation of your choosing, settle back in your favorite chair and give this little wonder your full attention. You'll be glad you did.

If this was a nod to Star Trek I would tell Blackford to "live long and prosper." Write more...Many more... Now that I think of it...How about a nod to Star Trek? I would love to see what that zany sense of humor did with the crew of the Enterprise.

4.0 von 5 Sternen A most enjoyable read. 23. April 2014

Do you like "Wooster & Jeeves" with Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry? P.G. Wodehouse? Do you like zombies? If yes, you will like this story by Troy Blackford. After the arrival of his recently departed Aunt Gertrude to his New York condo, Brodie Booster and his man Reeves must deal with an outbreak of the undead.

A fun, fast read and I hope there will be more adventures with Brodie and Reeves.
