I recommend this book to everyone who is willing to find and understand the freedom we have in Christ.
Regardless, Anderson gives some good practical advice to help you overcome sinful habits. All of that advice boils down to learning and embracing the truth. Whether it's Satan whispering lies into your ears or you lying to yourself, when you recognize those lies, you can (with effort) choose to stop listening to them. When you stop listening to lies and instead listen to truth, your actions will change for the better.
Before I read this, I was a christian who went from crisis to crisis. Then a friend lent me a copy of this book. Since then I have broken the bondages which kept me opressed, "renewed my mind" as Paul encourages us to do. I have bought a number of copies of his books and given them to friends whowere also struggling. There has been a truely amazing difference in my life and those I know who have "studied it". I am now living a christian life rather than going through the motions and just hanging on.
I read some of the other reviews: there are those that have been changed because of it and I rejoice with those people; Some dis-believe because they they don't believe in God or have an unbiblical view of God and/or themselves, I pray for them that they will know, personally, the joy in having a personal relationship with their creator; As always, you will get the "religious person" crying Heresy. I have two reponses for those people: For those that genuinely fear that there is heresy, did you prayerfully read and examine yourself? Your emotive reaction could be your resistance to the truth. Let the Holy Spirit guide you into all truth.
For those wolves in sheep clothing come to spread untruth I say to you get behind me Satan.
If you have excepted Jesus as your saviour - God has set you free, it is now your responsibility to renew your mind so that you can live as God has called you to live.
The spiritual battle we face is a battle for our mind. Bondage Breaker exposes Satan's tactics of using temptation, accusation and deception by equipping us with the truth that identifies those tactics-- rendering them ineffective.
It is most important that Christians understand their identity in Christ; and the power, authority and freedom we have in knowing God's truth. "The Bondage Breaker" exposes subtle lies, and helps clarify what our focus should be.
This book is especially good for those who are struggling with negative or sinful thoughts; addictive behavior; issues of guilt or unforgivness and intense spiritual attacks.
Every Christian should get "The Bondage Breaker"!
I met Neil Anderson at a Spiritual Warfare Conference years ago and was very impressed with his wisdom in these matters.
I was Protestant then, I am a Catholic lay Friar now, still involved in spiritual warfare and deliverance. I use Neil's materials and in fact took his seven steps to freedom, made some modifications to make it consistent with Catholicism, and included it in the Spiritual Warfare Counselor's Manual that is used by us and by others.
This is a wonderful and insightful work into the true nature of bondage and how we may find freedom.
Christians can become bothered and attacked by demons, and can come under bondage. Should anyone find themselves in such a situtation, this book will help to show how to find freedom.
C.S.Lewis wrote in The Screwtape Letters, "There are two equal and opposite errors into which our race can fall about the devils. One is to disbelieve in their existence. The other is to believe, and to feel an excessive and unhealthy interest in them. They themselves are equally pleased by both errors, and hail a materialist or magician with the same delight."
If I hadn't been so impressed with the high rating of this book, I would have noticed the heresy in the title itself. Satan's bonds are already broken. Christ did that for us at the cross. The strongholds are simply an illusion that we need to recognize. Neil isn't breaking any bonds for us. But I think we should all keep him in prayer.
