"The were-eagles and our kind have been at war since the beginning of time. Well, it’s more like fifty years since we’d decided to move into town, but it feels like an eternity already. And they’re not were-eagles, just like we’re not werewolves. They’re more like crows, and we look more like dogs. Mutts, they call us.

Times are changing and we do what we can to adapt in order to fit in. When you’re like us, social acceptance really is a problem. But we still have claws and fangs, and they have beaks and talons that can rip their enemy to shreds in seconds. Maybe it’s in our genes. Whenever we meet, it’s a miracle it doesn’t end in a bloodbath. It’s a good thing we rarely die, or there would be dead mutts all over the streets. Dead crows too. We’re a good match."

In a city where two shifter clans reside, the Mayor is struggling to maintain peace while keeping the population safe. Through a series of short stories, we discover what happens when intruders appear, humans get turned, the Mayor's reputation is at stake, an invasion is planned, and not everything is what it seems.

Shapeshifter stories for non-shapeshifter fans!

Award-winning writer Ioana Visan has always dreamed about reaching the stars, but since she can't, she writes about it. After fighting the apocalypse aftermath in "Human Instincts", she played with shapeshifters in "Blue Moon Café Series: Where Shifters Meet for Drinks", she dealt with vampires in "The Impaler Legacy" series, and then she designed prosthetics in "Broken People" before tackling longer works like a fantasy trilogy and a science fiction series. Aside from publishing short stories in various Romanian magazines and anthologies, she published a Romanian short story collection "Efectul de nautil" and the Romanian edition of "Human Instincts". She received the Encouragement Award from The European Science Fiction Society at Eurocon 2013. For more information, please visit

HASH(0x93bc9f18) von 5 Sternen Blue Moon Cafe: Where Shifter Fans Meet to Read 19. Februar 2013

Format: Kindle Edition
“Blue Moon Café” by Ioana Visan is another clever tale from this talented author. In Blue Moon, several seemingly unrelated short stories actually form different portions of a complete story. Each short story is a standalone story, but when combined they all work together as parts of a larger story. The basic underlying theme concerns a community largely populated by various “shifters”, such as werewolves, were-eagles, were-foxes, were-rats, and so on. In a nod to modernization, the werewolves have devolved into were-mutts; the were-eagles are now were-crows, and so on. In spite of the degraded condition of the many shifter species, they still mistrust and dislike one another. But to get along in the community, they try to work together as much as possible, with wolves and eagles serving together on the City Council, in their human forms.

In this story it becomes apparent that even were-critters have some degree of community pride. When a large pack of were-mice approaches the Mayor with a development project proposal, he privately confides to his wife, a were-fox, that he will not have "those vermin" in his town. When he learns they have misrepresented themselves, and are actually were-rats, his determination is redoubled. This is an engaging story, with a good dose of humor mixed in. I am delighted to see this is billed as a “Series”; that implies there will be more stories to come concerning this community of modern shape-shifters and their Blue Moon Café. This story is quite suitable for middle-grade readers on up to the elderly reader. I believe it would be particularly appropriate for the reluctant reader, who is sure to be surprised at how involved he becomes in the various short stories as well as the overall tale. I definitely recommend this book by the very talented Ioana Visan. I also urge you to keep an eye open for more books penned by her, as she is very capable of building an entertaining story.

I am left a bit unsure of this book. I am not a huge fan of short stories, but this book full of them seemed to work for the most part to make a good read. The stories were connected enough to make them seem like chapters of a book. However, they; being short stories, did not flow together in a seamless way. They were connected enough to make me see the connection and fill in the gaps between stories on my own, but they would have been better, I think if they had been made into a full novel with the gaps filled in by the author. I found it to be an interesting read all in all and I am glad I read it. It was also a quick read which I was able to sit down with and read in an afternoon. It did keep my attention by making me wonder what the next short story would be about and where it would fit in. My suggestion would be to make the stories flow better together if that is the intent. As short stories the plot can be hard to find, but as a full novel I think it would add a great amount to it. As I said though, it was a decent read. I liked the bit of mystery, action, and humor in the stories. The characters were also pretty neat and easy to want to read more about and to like.

Take one location, a cafe, where everyone meets or eventually comes. But this cafe's visitors aren't your regular ones. In Ioana Visan's Blue Moon Cafe, a lot of these visitors are shapeshifters. Were - beings, sorta speak. You have were-wolves, but also were-eagles etc. Every story centers around another being, and it is always a nice guess which one it is.

In a perfect world everyone got along, but of course it is not, so every species has their own specifics and their own dislikes, which you learn more of throughout each installment.
The mayor does everything he can to keep everyone at peace, with his wife playing a major role as well. Is he succesfull? You'll have to read and find out!

These series consist of 7 seperate stories, 'glued' together by the Blue Moom Cafe and it's visitors. Some characters of the stories also appear in others, which makes the stories so interconnected it is almost like reading a novel, instead of seperate stories.

Not being really fond of short stories, that makes it a good read for me.I wouldn't mind at al if the writer decides to expand on these stories, I woukd like to spend some more time in this world!

This is a collection of short stories revolving around were-animals or shifters. The main protagonists are werewolves and were eagles. Or as the stories say, big dogs and crows, but don't tell them, shifters have feelings too.

As a paranormal collection of short stories this works very well. The stories are long enough to provide enough information to make the characters believable and compelling, but short enough to fill in those moments when you need just a little something to read but don't have time for a full novel or novella. There is also enough difference in the stories that they are complete and yet there is an underlying theme to the collection so each story leads to the next seamlessly.

Well written and crafted this is a collection I am sure those who enjoy the paranormal will want to add to their collection. Fun, witty with bits of wisdom interspersed with good storytelling. A little romance, a little mayhem, what's not to like? I will recommend this one to my friends.

I've enjoyed Ioana's books before so I was delighted to get the chance to read Where Shifters Meet for Drinks. The Blue Moon Cafe is the setting through-out the book. It's full of several short stories all set in the same place, with the same town characters revolving through-out the stories.

The two clans, werewolf and eagle, don't get along and the mayor wants to protect his town. Every time any of the two clans meet, chaos reigns. The mayor has brought in some other supernatural creatures to help diffuse the rivalry, vampire to name one.

The characters are well developed and Visan's keen writing brings them to life. From the more dramatic, suspense-filled story to one of irony and humor, I was kept thoroughly entertained and clamoring for more. If you enjoy excellent writing with memorable characters and unique plot points, pick up Where Shifters Meet. It's fantastic!
