The story itself seemed very believable and I found myself engrossed in the characters as they were introduced. The lead characters in this story are well fleshed out and the reader is drawn in to each as their personalities are revealed. Although the character Daniel Davenport, is the main protagonist in this story, I also really liked the co-lead character Johanna Davenport, his sister. I found her resiliency, even in the face of being physically assaulted, imprisoned and falsely accused of witchcraft to be well written by this author. Female characters are something I find most male authors struggle with when writing.
As I said, I really enjoyed reading this book. I found this story to be very well written, quite engaging and the characters seemed to flow naturally into the story-line as it progressed. I can't imagine asking more from a really good fictional history novel. You sure can tell he put a lot of time and thought into developing this story. It's hard to believe this is Allen's first book, I look forward to reading more from this very talented author in the future. Bravo!
