Kurzbeschreibung

A sixteen-year NYPD veteran, Ralph Sarchie works out of the 46th Precinct in New York's south Bronx. But it is his other job that he calls "the Work": investigating cases of demonic possession and assisting in the exorcisms of humanity's most ancient--and most dangerous--foes. Now he discloses for the first time his investigation into incredible true crimes an inhuman evil that were never explained, solved, or understood except by Sarchie and his partner. Schooled in the rituals of exorcism, and an eyewitness to the reality of demonic possession, Ralph Sarchie has documented a riveting chronicle of the inexplicable that gives a new shape to the shadows in the dark.

In Beware the Night, he takes readers into the very hierarchy of a hell on earth to expose the grisly rituals of a Palo Mayombe priest; a young girl whose innocence is violated by an incubus; a home invaded by the malevolent spirit of a supposedly murdered ninteenth-century bride; the dark side of a couple who were literally, the neighbors from hell; and more. Ralph Sarchie's NYPD revelations are a powerful and disturbing documented link between the true-crime realities of life and the blood-chilling ice-grip of a supernatural terror.

DEMONIC POSSESSION. EXORCISM. HAUNTED HOUSES. SATANIC RITUALS.

For most people this is the stuff of nightmares, horror movies, folklore, and superstition. For New York City police sergeant Ralph Sarchie, it's as real -- and dangerous -- as midnight patrol...

I'm from Germany and ordered this book to learn about the "true story" behind the movie. What a big mistake!

After a few pages I started to wonder how the author can release a book when - as he writes (percieved a thousand times) mentioning demons or demonic things will attract the demonic like a magnet.
Uh, now what? Now I'm sitting here in Germany awaiting the german demonic (no, not Adolf Hitler, at least I hope so) which I summoned only by reading and fearing this book whereas I actually just wanted to learn how to avoid demons and all those dregs.
Yes, I'm ironic and sarcastic. But this book is from start to finish full of inconsistencies and contradictions.
And nearly every third paragraph the message: If you believe in God, all will be fine (yeah, even if the demons won't leave).
If this guy really believes in God I wonder how he can blow his own horn so often in the book (in my opinion he is a narcissistic macho and I got the impression he thinks that's exactly what God wants him to be).
And in each of the cases these dilettantish investigation. He drives to the "victims", listens to the stories they tell him, walks through the house to sense these and that. That's it! No scientific way to investigate to exclude at least the easiest physical explanations.
On 3/4 of the cases in the book I wondered what e.g. a simple infrasound measure in those houses would have revealed. A lot of the "demonic appearances and actions" can be caused be infrasound. And infrasound can be caused by simple things like a bad quality air condition. Mr. Sarchie, you just need to google 'Infrasound' and all the tricks it can play to body and mind.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Terrifying - Scared the Bejabbers Out of Me! 21. Februar 2002
Von M. Gill - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
This book was terrifying to read and some stange things started to occur around the house. I am still not sure what to make of it but the book had me reaching for the Holy Water and getting to confession. Mr. Sarchie states that thinking a lot about demons might actually draw them to you. BEWARE! This book will certainly have you thinking about them. It is not for the feint of heart.
The credibility of the author combined with the fact that this is a factual account makes for a rather shocking book.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A powerful and riveting book! 10. September 2009
Von a devoted Amazon.com customer - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
"Beware The Night" was so fascinating that I could not put it down. I finished the book in just two days. I will admit that the book had me glancing nervously over my shoulder once the sun went down! It was absolutely chilling. Having been a victim of frightening paranormal phenomena myself many years ago, I can empathize with the people that Ralph Sarchie talks about in his book. I greatly admire Ralph and his investigating partner, Joe Forrester, for their dedication and willingness to help people who are being terrorized and oppressed by malevolent preternatural forces. As I can testify from personal experience, these negative spirit beings are very real, and it takes a very special and spiritually strong person to be able to fight them. Not everyone can do the job that Ralph and Joe do, and I feel that people like them are called by God to do this type of work. I feel that "Beware The Night" serves as a powerful warning to those who may be considering experimenting with dark forces that they can't control and that will ultimately destroy them. "Beware The Night" clearly shows that Satan and his legions have no mercy and that their only goal is to destroy mankind. Another very important message in this book is that people don't have to tamper with the occult to become victims of the demonic. Innocent people can be attacked by malevolent forces when they unknowingly move into a house or apartment in which the previous tenants committed some negative act or ritual that drew demonic spirits into the building. But the book shows that there is hope for these unfortunate victims and that with the proper help the evil spirits can be banished from their homes.

The book makes it clear that there are different types of spirits. Some people mistakenly believe that they have a ghost (human spirit) in their home, when they actually have a demon (inhuman spirit) that is causing the havoc. Ralph explains how a person can tell the difference. For instance, he states that ghosts are limited as to what they can do. A ghost can levitate small, lightweight objects, but not much more than that. A demon, on the other hand, can move a 600 pound refridgerator or washing machine. A mere ghost could never do that. Also, only demons can cause objects to materialize and dematerialize. I think that all of this information in the book is extremely important for people to know.

I loved this book. Despite the fact that it was terrifying, it was also very inspirational because it shows the awesome power of God and His Son Jesus Christ and how good will triumph over evil. I would highly recommend "Beware The Night" to others. It is riveting and very well written. I applaud Ralph Sarchie and Joe Forrester. They are true Christian warriors whose work is extremely important in helping to win the battle against the dark, malevolent forces that seem to be increasing in this world.

5.0 von 5 Sternen scary! 13. Juni 2014

This book made me want to renew my faith as I have strayed from it. It is a scary thought to imagine being present in these stories. I had some moments where I had to put the book down because my level of fear became intolerable. I commend Ralph for being such a warrior of God. Great read if you aren't too scared to read it!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Nonfiction not Hollywood 25. Oktober 2015
Von Keats - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
The negative reviews for this book seem to come from people looking for the movie version of The Exorcist.

This is not Hollywood. It's not terror in a conventional sense. If you want to be scared, unless you have
a good imagination to really understand how slow and insidious these kinds of encounters can be,
this book is going to disappoint. It is not a horror novel nor is it the story the movie was based on.

These are, if you can believe them, true accounts. The writing isn't Shakespeare, but it's a quick,
easy read. Ralph tells his story very frankly. He was a NY City Police officer. This fact
is not in dispute. He saw some horrible things during his time as a Police officer.

And I know there are also many people out there who discount the content because
they can't possibly accept the stories at face value--they don't believe in God, they've
never seen anything that can't be explained, whatever.

I read with a skeptical, questioning mind. And I found the accounts credible because
of Ralph Sarchie's character and motive. We aren't talking about a saint here. Some of the
negative reviews point out that Ralph "curses like a sailor." Actually, he curses
like a NY City Police officer who's been through some seriously nasty stuff.
But the man just wants to help people who really need it. How can you fault that?

He doesn't claim to be a saint or a priest or anything else. He does what he does
for FREE only after the fact making some money off of it via the movie. He has
taken steps to get closer to God as a Catholic, yes, but that doesn't make him
perfect, and those reviews that expect perfection should be discounted outright.

And his side job has cost him dearly--far more than he will ever make telling the
story. The consequences of these encounters are far more terrifying yet less...
dramatic...than Hollywood. When you start to consider what the reality of
these encounters means, you start to understand just how much danger
these people are in--and I don't mean the physical danger.

It's a 5* book because this is Morpheus in the Matrix--trying to wake
people up to the reality that..

There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio....

4.0 von 5 Sternen A book that actually gives you a shiver 13. Oktober 2005
Von Jaimie D. Sixsmith - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
Unlike many books on the subject of the supernatural this actually gives you the creeps at times. Too many accounts are far removed from the actual reader, but Ralph Sarchie describes events that are contemporary and close to home and could possibly affect anyone who was reading. From the very start he had me looking over my shoulder and I have never come across a book before that I have felt it best not to read at bedtime. Believe me, you do not want to go to sleep thinking about some of his accounts of demonic possession! A truly memorable read for anyone interested in the supernatural.
