Congratulations to the author Peter J. Hanley! Amazing tribute to one of my all-time favorite movies - the classic THE GOOD, THE BAD & THE UGLY. All my very high expectations regarding this book have been surpassed! Hundreds of behind-the-scenes stills, detailed historical comparisons and more!!!
If you are a serious fan of The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly (GBU), this book is simply a must-own.
Peter Hanley is obviously a very hardcore fan. Each picture has as much info in the caption as possible - for example, the names of some extras! Peter often tells us how he zoomed up on an image to get behind-the-scenes info. For example, in the scene where Tuco is looking at a map as he and Blondie ride atop the Confederate stagecoach, Peter tells us that a zoomed-up image shows specific places on the map related to the real historical battles in the area. Another example: Peter tells us he zoomed up on a behind-the-scenes pic of Leone holding a book, and so he is able to figure out the name of the book (Gardner's Civil War Sketchbook) and so we see that Leone was looking at real pics of the Civil War on the set of GBU! Also, Peter shows some historical photos, matched with shots from the movie, to show us how the movie recreates historical photos.
Peter has tons of interviews here, some with major players, such as Eli Wallach; or the relatives of deceased major players, like Lee Van Cleef's son; and interviews with people with small roles (Aldo Sambrell) and bit players (e.g., Chelo Alonso, the woman who played the wife of Stevens; and also the woman who went to bed with Blondie in the famous "Socoro" scene that never made the final cut.
I love how the book has a broken-in feel, and all the pages stay open; often, with new books, the pages don't stay open, you need to put something heavy on it to hold the page open. But with this book, you can be on the first page or smack in middle, and it stays open with no problem!
The book weighs around five-and-a-half pounds.
Bottom line: If you are a serious GBU fan, this book is a must-own!
Peter, Thanks so much for making this book. Now, please make the book on For a Few Dollars More!
You see, in this world there's two kinds of movie books, my friend...
...and this is definitely a must have. Got my GBU book last friday- it made my weekend! Amazing never seen pictures and tons of interesting information and interviews. Once you start reading you can't put it away. Even for me as a Clint Eastwood fan through and through this book contains so much information i've never heard before. Thank you very much, Mr. Hanley!
