I love tile matching games and have been playing them for the better part of two decades. However, some are better than others, and I've recently been going through the ones in the app store here on Amazon to find my favorite Android tile matching game.
Unfortunately, for me, I don't think it's going to be this one. It doesn't have very many built-in layouts, first of all. (I prefer games with a lot of built-in layouts.) And when you finish one layout, if you choose to keep playing, it brings you right back to the same layout again.
This game does include the feature of creating your own layout. For some people, that might be a really good thing, and I hope you have fun with it! I found the game creation aspect to be a bit awkward, myself, and I grew frustrated after a few minutes. Placement of tiles in game creation mode is not intuitive, although after putting one or two in the wrong place, you'll figure out where to click to place them correctly. Also, to "undo" your last move and/or to remove tiles, things which I think ought to be easily-accessible, you have to either tap on "more" (to access "undo") or you have to change the "action" to "remove." Since placement is a little awkward, it would be nice if these features were easier to get to -- you'll want to use them often.
There are a lot of backgrounds available (mostly textured or patterned with one or a few colors) and most of them are good as backgrounds. That is, they don't interfere with being able to see the tiles. The only tile set I was able to access was a variation on the traditional tile set. However, for me, that's OK. These are the tiles I prefer.
Response time to selecting tiles was good. There's also an indicator on the upper right of how many matches are left and how many tiles are left. I can't find a place where score is kept, so I guess there is no scoring. However, there's a timer in the upper right, so you could at least try to beat a particular time if you wanted.
One good feature of this game relates to the difficulty level. You can undo moves so it is possible to get through a game without shuffling if you choose. You can also choose to be offered 0, 1, 2, 3, or unlimited shuffles when there are no more matches left. All of this is pretty easily accessible through the options screen. So whether you prefer to use shuffles or not, there is a gameplay mode available to you. I tried doing a few without shuffles and I'm not convinced they're always winnable without shuffles.
I was playing this with the music off so I can't speak to that. I will note that there's no story or quest element to this. Also, I did not see any ads or in-game purchases, so that was nice. And, for what it's worth, this works pretty well in the BlueStacks Android emulator (Mac OSX beta version).
In the end, this game is just really not what I'm looking for. If you really like changing backgrounds and/or you want to design your own layouts, this may be worth it for you. (And hey, it only cost 99 cents at the time I purchased it.) If, on the other hand, you prefer a game that comes with a lot of pre-made layouts and you don't care about backgrounds or making your own layouts so much, you'll probably want to keep looking.
