“I strongly support The Anti-Estrogenic Diet, which provides simple guidelines on how to reach an optimal hormonal balance that revitalizes and protects the organism.”
—Daniel Kuhn, MD, founder of Integrative Neural Psychiatric Services of New York
“The Anti-Estrogenic Diet is a must read for anyone who cares about their own health, the health of their family, and the health of our global community.”
—Scott Treadway, PhD, world-renowned botanical expert and assistant director of Naturally Occurring Standard Group
“Ori Hofmekler has outdone himself and has put out my favorite nutrition book on building muscle, burning fat, and clearing excess estrogens.”
—Mike Mahler, strength coach and author of The Aggressive Strength Solution for Size and Strength
“On the Anti-Estrogenic Diet, I lost weight I had not been able to lose using any other diet. My hormones are balanced, essentially eliminating any PMS and peri-menopausal symptoms. This is not a diet but an eating plan for life. I feel comfortable in my own body for the first time in a long time.”
—Testimonial from Nancy Loeffler, project manager at Whiting-Turner Contracting Company, North Carolina
“Through a carefully laid 3-Phase protocol, this diet is designed to clean-up detox pathways, eliminate estrogenic foods and chemicals, and then incorporate anti-estrogenic foods for a long-term lifestyle change. Hofmekler still manages to allow many favorite foods but shows how to balance them with an overall anti-estrogenic way of life… Overall, this would be a beneficial diet for anyone living in today’s toxic environment.”
Forget every dieting rule you know - "The Anti-Estrogenic Diet" lets you eat fat, carbs, and your largest meal at night, as you finally win the fight against stubborn belly fat, fatigue, and unmanageable menstrual symptoms. Whether you are a man or a woman, the female hormone estrogen is to blame. Estrogenic chemicals commonly found in the environment, meats, produce, and herbs have harmful effects on our health. "The Anti-Estrogenic Diet" helps women overcome stubborn fat around the hips, upper thighs, and belly, relieve irregular menstrual cycles and bloating, and helps men become more virile and lose belly fat. There are three basic phases to the simple, three-week diet. The first allows you to detox the estrogen in your system, the second allows you to eat a high fat diet to compensate for the problems caused by eating too much estrogen, and the third reintroduces your favorite foods, little by little, to better understand your body's reactions. These phases are incredibly easy to follow, because the recipes included in the book are categorized to fit each phase, and a sample daily diet is provided for each.Hofmekler also includes a chapter on how to avoid a fat-gain rebound, a helpful glossary, and an appendix full of scientific overviews that make the book a valuable resource.

My only problem with the book was that it seemed disjointed and unorganized. I really should blame the publisher and not the author for not doing a better job of outline and organization. I would like to have seen a chapter or two of a complete list of "anti-estrogenic" foods and the combinations therof. And I would like to have seen at least the two weeks of de-tox in a suggested daily menu format, and many more suggested recipes. The author speaks of athletes and people involved in intense physical training and I believe most of the people who will be reading this book are interested in the loss of stubborn weight gain. There should be more information dedicated to that much larger audience, in my opinion.
It is a scholarly work and those people who are not familiar with the chemical names of substances will have a harder time trying to make sense of which substances and suppliments are preferrable. The author and publisher need to revise this book into a more readable and organized format.
His anti-estrogen eating plan resembles a vegetarian diet with a few eggs, fish and whey mixed-in for good measure. To quote him: "Eat up the food chain and eat mostly at the bottom of the food chain," that is his mantra in the book. That is basically it, and I am not kidding. He recommends very high consumption of carbs (mainly eat little else during the day except fruits and cruciferous vegetables with a few mixed greens and a little good oils...)
This eating plan is just not healthy for a person with any type of metabolic resistance issues like a diabetic or a person with thyroid issues (which is probably 65% percent of the people who would buy a diet book, especially women who want to know more about riding the body of excessive estrogen!).
I know from my own research and experience that protein must play a bigger role than he claims and you can not possibly think eating only eggs, fish and whey will meet those needs. According to him you get too much estrogen from eating animal meat, and you should instead get your protein from grains and legumes in a 1:1 ration regardless of the carb intake (told you, vegetarian diet!). Why not just suggest people eat organic and grass fed meat, therefore by passing the hormones and antibiotics? It is proven that grass fed meat is lower in estrogens and higher in Omega 3, why did he not promote that more I wonder?
What did I learn about ridding my body of excessive estrogens?
1. Don't eat red clover, licorice, hops, or soy.
2. Eat very little animal meat and only once a day at night.
3. Don't mix fuels like fat and carbs, but your fuel should mainly come from either a HIGH fat day or a HIGH carb day. (He says to toss the low carb idea out the window).
4. Eat lots of cruciferous vegetables and supplement with Indole 3 to detox the liver. (something you are warned NOT to do if you have a thyroid condition, which again is a big audience that he is writing to, and he NEVER addresses that!)
5. Exercise (duh)
There are parts of the book I will incorporate into my diet (thus the 2 stars), but I really think this topic should be readdressed by a better writer with a more CLEAR eating plan and better menu's and recipes.
As for anti-estrogen, with the advent of the soy bean as "the ultimate super food" that the health food industry and government has labeled it (In 1920 soy milk was rejected as a bonding meterial for cardboard as the FDA feared that children might play with the boxes - The Whole Soy Story: The Dark Side of America's Favorite Health Food) estrogen and the resulting diseases cuased by excess estrogen have become pandemic. This along high exposure to other environmental toxins has become an incredable burden on our livers. Hofmeklers book not only addresses estrogen inthe diet but also liver detox and food sensitivity, even if his advice to eliminate estrogen from the diet were to be ignored the remaining 2/3 of his method would still have an incredably high impact on resolving any health issues.
