The idea that ALL the animals in the world would suddenly start a war on humanity may sound preposterous, but Iain Rob Wright handles it so cleverly that the reader moves into high gear as of the first page and doesn't look back.
The constellation of the characters thrown together work nicely to generate a steady undercurrent of tension throughout the whole story, so our "hero", (a father who has taken his son to the zoo for the day) is not only battling against the forces of nature, but also the petty greeds and aspirations of a couple of the other survivors. As the friction among the group heats up, you'll start to wonder who really are the bad guys, the man eating animals or the ambition hungry people held under siege?
I really enjoyed Animal Kingdom and recommend it to anyone.
