Little over 11 months ago, I reviewed this book and frankly found the content lacking in delivering the expectations setup by the title. Now Natalie Johnson, good to her word, has come back and expanded the content into a far more interesting, and a bit more practical little guide.

It still only covers the same six herbs, yet we now have tips on an array of herb handling/processing tips and store selection factors, and each of the six herbs have additional specific tips and explanations, such at the visible differences between Chives and Garlic Chives (something I have actually run afoul of.. ick). We still also have recipes in chapter, still taking up the bulk, yet the added content that helps those newly learning how to use herbs, the added content in the introductory explanations should help in determining when to use it in your own recipes, as well as gleaning comparative ideas from the presented recipes.

I also have to commend the expanded step-by-step recipe instructions - she really does go into details often completely missed (and frankly terribly written) in other similar offerings. Her way of presenting "Mint Limeade" really does make it simple. :)

This book doesn't tell you about how to use spices. It just gives a bunch of recipes. I was hoping that it would talk about what spices add and when to add them in general terms. I can always look up recipes, but understanding when and where to use them is much more desirable

Could it be so simple to change the taste of a tasteless lunch or dinner? It definitely is! I must admit that I was skeptical to buy this book but now, as I’ve never thought before about herbs, but after reading it I must admit it vastly over-delivers! I’m not a professional chef, not even a good amateur, but after reading this book my boyfriend never complain again about my courses! You have to try it out! It certainly helped me to improve my cooking!

This is a book that is small and limited to only a few herbs. However, within its limitations, it seems to cover the topic adequately. I hope that future installments are offered for free.
