It is believed that the thief known as Wrexhall's Wraith has stolen a jewel box containing a damaging letter that has to do with a murder, and the king. It is Jack Seward's job to apprehend the thief and recover the letter before it falls into the wrong hands. The danger and thrill of stealing intoxicates the thief, yet there is a purpose behind this dangerous madness. Though well trained and an expert, the thief is caught unaware when the Whitehall Hound makes his presence known. The thief thinks it is rather extreme that the Hound was set on Wrexhal's Wraith just because some aristocrat's jewels and treasures are being stolen. The only thing the Wraith has going is the element of surprise - the thief is a 'she.' Everyone knows Jack by his reputation as Whitehall's Hound; he is feared and respected. And they know the circumstances of his low birth and deprived childhood, yet he is tolerated by the ton as he circulates in their social circle looking for the thief. He has narrowed the suspects down to four women and when he crosses paths with one woman in particular, he feels the same sexual excitement that he felt when he surprised the thief and she kissed him. Jack is told to get the letter and kill the thief, but his suspicion about her identity will not allow him to carry out his orders because he is drawn to her like a moth to a flame. And later, when he confronts her, she tells him there was no letter in the box. He believes her, but knowing she will be killed regardless, he marries her to protect her. Unless or until the letter is found, her life is in danger. And it takes the old king himself, George III, to put an end to this madness. Though there is no secret as to the thief's identity, the cat and mouse games played are titillating and delicious. The missing letter, the question of it's contents, who has it and the hunt for it make this book quite a thriller. An intoxicating and titillating romance! Connie Brockway takes you high up to the rooftops and deep into the emotions of her wonderful characters! Ms. Brockway writes with passion about passion so effectively, you feel it too! A skillful and talented author, Ms. Brockway and All Through The Night are magnificent! The sexual tension is so taut that you as the reader along with the characters beg for it's end. The raw power and shear strength of the hero is perfectly balanced with the demur and unassuming heroine, and both have keen intelligence as one tries to outsmart the other in an exciting game of cat and mouse. This book is incredible - satisfying - a definite winner and I loved it!Gloria Miller -- Copyright © 1994-97 Literary Times, Inc. All rights reserved

The first half of the book was quite good: the characters were interesting and the story compelling. Not so the second half of the book. Jack suddenly turns into a male chauvinist pig and handles his "beloved" quite roughly. I don't like it, when women are treated rougly, I can see nothing romantic about it. And when the mystery about the letter was solved in the end I was really disappointed. I am sorry, but after the suspense that was created in the story I expected more than this!

This book is a jewel. Rarely have a book gripped me by the neck and dragged me into a story so magical that I never wanted it to end. Jack Seward is a secret intelligence officer in the trail of Anne Wilder, a female cat-burglar who may have stolen a document of importance that threatens Regency england's security. Jack was a man with painful past : he had lived a false identity, and was so withdrawn from most human compassion that he was almost the emotionless ghost some thought him to be. Anne, on the other hand, was the opposite: she had been suffocated by the attention of an obsessive husbandand lived in guilt and low self-esteem. She thrived on taking risks in order to feel alive. Seeing these two challenge each other over rooftops and on dance floors was like watching a chess match, riveting and intense, but ultimastely satisfying in the outcome. For these two characters needed each other, to teach other to feel and love again. Miss Brockway was most poetic in her writing. When Anne was missing, a frantic Jack searched for her, asking people he met as if they had seen her. But it was useless, 'for their eyes were on the ground, and she, she flew', thought Jack. This romance is also compelling in that it was Jack who opened himself first to Anne. He admitted his need for her love and affection, and his attempts to keep her safe from his employers even as he tried to win her heart were a heartbreaking read. This book made me feel many things. Pain at the torment these people go, tears at the healing of their ravaged souls, and finally, a bittersweet lump in my heart as I said goodbye to the people I've known for a few hours yet cared about. Connie Brockway had worked magic - a magic that we readers experience oh-so rarely in reading a book. Get this book - it's well-worth the investment.

After reading the review provided by Amazon books I felt compelled to submit my own review Connie Brockway's dark, riveting and utterly compelling romance ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT. Amazon must have received a proposal version of the synopsis for this book from Dell. Unfortunately that version isn't too similar to the final story. Yes, there's a female cat burglar and yes, there's a colonel committed to tracking her down, but there is no brother and while this book is filled Connie's trademark wit and fine crafted characters, it is worlds away from the light and humorous romp the Amazon review suggests. The hero, Jack Seward, one of England's most ruthless, remorseless and perfectly mannered agents, is set to on the trail of the Wrexhall Wraith whose is said to have stolen a letter potentially dangerous to the crown. In springing a trap on the masked thief he instead becomes entangled in a snare of sexual obsession when he discovers her gender and she escapes. While searching through the regency ton for clues to his thief's identity, he falls in love for the first time in his life with a haunted widow, Anne Wilder. Unknown to him, Anne Wilder is his thief, driven to flirt with death by her own past tragedies. And she, too, is held captive to the sexual magnetism that erupts between them. This is a fascinating and unique love story. Connie Brockway's regency world is unlike any you've experienced. It's a dark, intense, with riveting relationships, and rich, three-dimensional characterizations. In short, absolutely spellbinding

This is a wonderful book. So many romances are poorly written, poorly plotted, and poorly imagined. (I have thrown more than few against the wall mid way through the first couple of chapters.) If you want an intelligent, romantic read this is the book for you. I have enjoyed all Ms. Brockway's work, but this book, "My Dearest Enemy," "Anything for Love," and "As You Desire" rank amongst the best of romantic fiction. I know from Ms. Brockway's web site that she reads these reviews, so I have one question: "When will you write Gile's story?"

In 1817 London, Jack Seward is assigned to kill the Wrexhall Wraith before the master thief can sell a letter that his superior Jamison wants returned. Jack soon learns that the thief is a female. For the first time in his lonely life he finds himself attracted to a woman. He also is attracted to Anne Wilder, a chaperon to a debutante. Jack soon learns that the two women he is lusting over are the same person. He forces Anne to marry him because he wants to protect her from his superior. Anne finally convinces Jack that she never possessed the missing document. Jack knows that he will need to utilize all his talents to keep his beloved alive from the deadly threat of his boss, who is playing his own game.

ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT is an extremely pleasant reading experience that follows the traditional rules of the sub-genre. The lead characters are both huggable sorts that readers will embrace as the pair struggles to overcome lifetimes of lessons leading to mistrust. The mystery of the letter adds an extra element of intrigue. Connie Brockway provides her fans with an intriguing Regency romance, pushing her one step closer to being one of tomorrow's superstars.
