4.0 von 5 Sternen A great BOC album, when put into context.... 31. Dezember 2014

This album is quite different than the three previous albums (the black and white trilogy) that started the Blue Oyster Cult recording career. I don't believe that this was some type of change in order to achieve commercial success, like some other reviewers have said. I base this not on my feelings, but statements made by the band. It was just the procedure of how this album came to be that surreptitiously created a "hit album." This brings me to the review: this album is one of the better BOC lps when put into context. The band had been doing a lot of group writing, led by Roeser and Pearlman, on the first three albums (with contributions from other band members). For Agents of Fortune, however, the band tried something radically different for them. All members of the band met in NY city, with each bringing their own, almost finished, songs with them. From those crop of songs they chose a balanced mix from each members' songs. I believe their are two Albert Bouchard, Joe Bouchard songs, three from Alan Lanier ( who was writing with Patti Smith), three from Donald Roeser, and one from Eric Bloom. I could be slightly off on the exact numbers, but suffice to say it worked out to be a collection of individual songs, with not much changed in the studio. This fact leads to an album that wildly varies and lacks the cohesion of the previous albums. That is not a bad thing, but it needs to be listened to that way to really appreciate I believe. So yes, Debbie Denise is a weird song on an album with This Ain't the Summer of Love. And yes, True Confessions has a Motown vibe, which is a strange lead into the subdued darkness and sinister Don't Fear the Reaper. This is not a band searching for hits (although I'm sure the success was welcomed), but a group of extremely talented musicians who could all sing lead and write their songs doing just that. They tried the same formula on their next album, Spectres, with less effecttveness. (I don't think the songs were as strong on that album) Overall, a great entry in an impressive catalogue when put into the right context.

BOC- In this Album set has once again, shown there Strong ability to Rock & Roll out Great music. That's, what sets this group out from the others, that spans the test of time.. I would highly recommend this BOC, Classic.

The days are gone when great music like this is made. I feel pity for the millennial and the cr@p they have to listen to now.

Went through the old cassette tapes to figure out what to bring up to date, yeah I have done it before. This time the tapes are going away.
This was one album that just had to be added back into the collection. Good recording definitely cleaner than a tape. Didn't even realize how much I would enjoy listening to this again.
