... ging ziemlich in die Hosen. 1990 opferten STRYPER ihre Trademarks zu Gunsten des Erfolges und gingen damit baden, das Ende vom Lied war dann die Auflösung der Band im Jahre 1993.
Was war passiert? Nachdem sich mit den beiden Vorgängern der kommerzielle Erfolg eingestellt hatte, wagten die vier Kalifornier den Griff nach den Sternen und wollten mit "Against The Law" richtig durchstarten.

Anspiel-Tip "All for one", "Two time woman" als Abgeh-Hardrocker und "Lady" als Ballade. Alles in allem ein tolle Scheibe!

5.0 von 5 Sternen I love this album 9. Mai 2014
Von Steven H. Barr - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

I'm a new Stryper fan, but a long time metal fan. My first album I bought by them was "No More Hell to Pay" several months ago. Since then I have been accumulating their albums and enjoying all of them. I didn't realize what I was missing. Since buying this album I've listened to it about 3 times a day and it keeps getting better. This is supposedly their first secular album, and they do a fine job. Although not Christian explicitly, it does have a very positive vibe and refers to many trials and temptations that all people are subject to. It does have a positive message and some rebellion in particular with the title track where they object to the people who criticized them for not looking or playing things that was not in the Christian genre previously. The last song seems to be a about how they have performed their ministry, and intend to continue. "Not That Kind of Guy" says things previously unheard within male rockers. Two Bodies, All for One, and their cover of Shining Star are all quite positive in nature. Lady is an instant classic. Vocals are powerful and this is where Michael Sweet's voice started maturing to pipe it out with the best of them. Possibly the album was no popular because Christians thought Stryper was abandoning religious themes. Secular fans may not have liked it because it was from a Christian band. There are bigots on both sides. Possibly Stryper would have done better by starting secular and grabbing a greater fan base, and then going religious and dragging their secular fans with them. I was going to give this a 4 star as I was comparing it to No More Hell to Pay, but that wouldn't be fair as nothing compares with their latest. One of my favorite 3 along with Master of Reality and Golden Earring's Moontan. As a result I'll give it five since it's actually my favorite album prior to their breakup. Hope you enjoy this album as much as I do.

5.0 von 5 Sternen The Best of Strypers First Five Albums 9. April 2013
Von Ted C. - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

Even though I am a devoted Stryper fan I never owned this album when it first came out because it marked a change of direction for the band. It was their first - and aside from The Covering in 2011 the only - album to feature "cross-over" tunes that fit better in a secular market than with their core audience, the white metal crowd.

I wish I had owned this album sooner!

Musically it is my favorite of the first five Stryper albums. They were at the top of their game for the early years and the guitar work is by far the most melodic and complex, while sacrificing nothing in sheer power. Production is excellent and you can hear every nuance of Robert's playing and Timothy's bass work.

The track listing is:

Against The Law - A protest song against religious condemnation. You can instantly hear the melodic phrasing in the descending chording of the verses. Blistering harmonizing dual guitar solos throughout much of the second half of the song.

Two Time Woman - A guy breaking up with his utterly unfaithful girlfriend. Strikes me as a good motivational song for a young man trying to stay pure (Proverbs 5-7). Solid and upbeat musically.

Rock The People - Almost an anthem, tells the story of growing up playing guitar and wanting perform. The guitar solos are among the most aggressive on the album.

Two Bodies One Mind One Soul - A guy who is married and making up or coming together with his wife. Mid-tempo with a melody that sounds great performed soft and spacious or hard and driving. The solo starts off slow and soulful, then slowly crescendos. There is more soulful soloing at the end of the song.

Not That Kind Of Guy - A barn burner about a guy turning down an indecent proposition. One of the fastest songs in the Stryper catalog. Blazing solo.

Shining Star - This is an old Earth Wind and Fire tune written by vocalist Philip Bailey who had gone on to additional success in the Contemporary Christian market. Late 80's Journey bassist Randy Jackson - now of "American Idol" fame - steps in to play bass on the track. Fast and upbeat, the only Stryper song I know of that incorporates the sounds of a horn section.

Ordinary Man - A guy appealing to his significant other for forgiveness. Also appears to be a message that the members of Stryper are just ordinary guys who deserve to be cut slack and need grace just like anyone else. Slightly slower tempo and more like a rocking blues anthem. Two really nice solos at different points in the song.

Lady - A ballad that I've heard many critics say was an attempt to cash in on the bands previous mainstream hit, Honestly. The song stands on it's own and is a more mature expression of love and desire than it's predecessor. Beautiful vocal harmonies.

Caught In The Middle - A driving song about being lost in life and needing help. Encourages the listener to "turn it around" and "make a call". This song also includes the controversial phrase, "you don't know what the hell you're feeling". Taken in the context of Stryper's other work the song is clearly about encouraging someone to turn to God for help. The pace is a bit frenzied and the solo starts off with quick, stabbing, almost dischordant sections that transition into a series of orderly melodic climbing scales.

All For One - I was surprised to find out that this song came out three years before the Brat Pack's movie version of The Three Musketeer's in 1993. I had always thought the song was written for a movie. It could have been. A clear anthem about unity with an almost baroque feel to the intro and chording. The solo is sparse and melodic and continues the baroque theme.

Rock The Hell Out Of You - Another barn burner and a fitting final song for an album that starts off with a message against religious condemnation. The song seems like an in-your-face declaration that no matter what anyone says about the band, Stryper is going to continue doing what they do. On first glance the song might seem a little unnecessary and antagonistic but it makes sense in light of what they were going through at the time. A lot of people were heaping unmerited religious criticism on the band for trying to reach out to a metal audience. In the years since, white metal has gained a large audience and general acceptance, both in the church and within the metal scene. Stryper laid much of the groundwork for this and bands from Guardian to Theocracy have expressed a debt of gratitude.

After this album came out, Stryper distanced themselves from the songs Rock The Hell Out Of You and Against The Law. There is nothing technically wrong with them, however, and it would be a pity to miss out on an album this good because a couple of the songs are edgy. The songs - and the album - are incredibly honest and real. It's definitely worth listening to.
