Many struggle and fail to don the mantle of Georgette Heyer. If anyone comes close, it is Jude Morgan' Elizabeth Buchan, Sunday Times -- Dieser Text bezieht sich auf eine vergriffene oder nicht verfügbare Ausgabe dieses Titels.

As a young woman, clever, self-reliant Lydia Templeton scandalised society by rejecting Lewis Durrant, the county's most eligible bachelor. Ten years later, Lydia has no regrets and, having concluded that matters of the heart need no longer trouble her, she is quite happy to remain unwed. But others still seek Lydia's advice on their love lives, and when her godmother implores her to take her young ward Phoebe's search for a suitor in hand, it's hard to refuse. In truth, the prospect fills Lydia with horror (especially as she must go to Bath of all places to do it), but poor Phoebe, having managed to promise herself to two men at once, rather needs her help. However, finding a solution to Phoebe's dilemma proves far trickier than anyone imagined. As affairs become increasingly tangled, Phoebe more muddled and Lydia's exasperation grows, the confirmed spinster finds that her own heart is not quite the closed book she thought it was! -- Dieser Text bezieht sich auf eine vergriffene oder nicht verfügbare Ausgabe dieses Titels.

Whenever a dust jacket features comments comparing authors to Georgette Heyer, I am immediately leary and yet hopeful. Added to that, the author is a man ... which (forgive me my prejudice) always seems tricky. I was pleasantly surprised and very entertained. The plot outline is provided, so I won't repeat details. The book did wear on just a very little bit at moments, but that my just be due to the overall length - more than your standard "read it in one short sitting or during one flight". I loved Lydia Templeton .. found myself chuckling at her acerbic wit. I just hope the author writes many more books featuring ironic humor. While noone really matches Georgette Heyer, this is at least a non-embarrassing romance which will please her fans.

3.0 von 5 Sternen his writing is great at times, BUT 2. August 2015

I have read and kept A Little Folly and Indiscretion. In those books I enjoyed both the story and the writing. In An Accomplished Woman there is plenty of smart writing as well, times when a thought expressed just so made me think or pay extra attention or laugh. However, sometimes it seemed that the author was in love with words and more words just to ramble rather than to use them to move the story along. IMO there were too many long conversations, probably very true to the times when there weren't a lot of other diversions, but which finally made me want to skip ahead in the book. A number of the twists to the story were familiar to romance readers, even predictable, except that I don't mind that IF they serve the story well. When they feel borrowed, I get nervous. A number of the characters were also familiar, some have suggested copied from Austen. I think what bothered me most, however, was the character of the heroine. I'm sure, bright as he is, the author intended to show An Accomplished Woman as misguided and lacking in awareness on purpose, but I don't have to like her for being those things.

Like Morgan's other early 19th century romantic comedies, _A Little Folly_ and _Indiscretion_, _An Accomplished Woman_ is a kind of Austen pastiche that yet stands on its own as a droll and touching novel of pride and prejudice, sense and sensibility, love and chance.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Jude Morgan channels his inner Austen superbly 14. Juli 2015
Von Kara Bernardi Anthony - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe Verifizierter Kauf
Oh my, Jude Morgan, how do you do it?! I cannot believe that a MODERN, MALE writer can write Regency era historical fiction that Ms. Austen herself would relish. Yet he does! Seriously, did you travel back in time and steal one of her near-finished manuscripts and market it as your own? I'm on to your trickery...

If you like Regency era historical fiction, you'll enjoy this book tremendously. I truly do love the characters in this novel, particularly Lydia, the protagonist and narrator. She is everything I admire in a Regency heroine, and her self-effacing manner and dry wit is charming. I found myself laughing throughout the entire book, which brought an onslaught of stares, but I didn't care because I was so absorbed in the story.

In short, read this!

I really loved this book... well perhaps this author. Jude Morgan is going on my "buy everything he writes" list. I truly feel that if Jane Austen were writing in this day and age, her words, her humor and her heroines would be much like Mr. Morgan's. So Mr. Morgan, are you channeling or what? LOL

5.0 von 5 Sternen As good as Jane's work, maybe funnier 5. August 2009
Von OLT - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

I don't quite understand why Jude Morgan/Tim Wilson/T.R.Wilson/Hannah March is not more popular. His writing is excellent. The stories themselves are good, but it is the writing that makes his books outstanding. This particular book, written in the style of a Jane Austen novel, is as perfectly executed as any she wrote. Not to mention that Jude Morgan's books have even more laugh-out-loud and tongue-in-cheek moments than Jane's did. (Perhaps he needs a better agent.) If you like this book, also try his INDISCRETION and A LITTLE FOLLY, two other comedies of manners written in the style of Austen.
