Kurzbeschreibung

"It may have been four years, Kyle, but that doesn’t mean I don’t remember how you operate."

I snatched her hand as she reached to open the door to the studio. I wasn’t ready to end this moment alone with her. "You don’t think I’ve learned a few things since then?"

She smirked and shook her head. "New tricks. Same dog."

It was impossible not to take her words as a challenge. I pushed her back until she was pinned against the door and leaned in close enough that our breaths mingled. Her eyes snapped wide the same way they always had whenever I’d invaded her personal space, and I watched, satisfied, as she sucked in a lung full of air and held it.

"That mentality will be your downfall this time around, Val." I leaned in, letting my lips linger at her jawline for a moment too long before bringing them to her ear. "Same old tricks," I whispered. "New man."

With that, I kissed her cheek and breezed past her into the studio, leaving her flustered and in need of another moment to collect herself all over again.

Best selling YA romance author Kelly Oram takes her first dive into new adult romance with this heartfelt and hilarious tale of a rockstar and a virgin.

Rockstar to the core, Six-time Grammy Award-winning musician Kyle Hamilton has it all—money, fame, talent, good looks, and a job he loves. His only regret in life: walking away from a certain notorious virgin because he was too prideful, stubborn, and even afraid to give her the only thing she asked of him—his abstinence.

Four years and a broken heart later, Kyle realizes that sex isn’t everything, and he suddenly can’t stop thinking about the girl that got away. Virgin Val Jensen got under his skin like no one else ever has. He wasn’t ready for her then, but things are different now. He’s grown up, he’s learned a few things, and he’s finally figured out exactly what he wants, or, rather, who he wants.

Kyle Hamilton wants a do-over, and this time he’s willing to do—or not do—whatever it takes.

Note from the author: A is for Abstinence is the second and final installment in the V is for Virgin series. While V is for Virgin was a young adult book, A is for Abstinence is a new adult romance and was intended for a more mature audience. Not only is this story told from the perspective of a notorious bad boy, the characters have grown from the first book and are older now. The book was written with a more mature audience in mind. It's still PG-13 (I don't write graphic sex scenes) but it's not as clean as my YA romance. Please keep that in mind if you're a sensitive reader or thinking about passing it to your teenage daughters.

2.0 von 5 Sternen Very Disappointing Sequel 6. Oktober 2014
Von Veronica, just an average reader, you know? - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
I really loved "V is for Virgin" and I was really looking forward to reading the sequel, but I have to say I was sorely disappointed by it. It would have been nice if this book had been written with alternating points of view, instead of just Kyle's shallow worldview. It made me miss seeing things from Val's perspective and reading her thoughts about several things, and it also kind of destroyed the aura of "mystery" around Kyle. Sometimes "less is more", and this is true about Kyle's character, in my opinion.

I expected to read a very romantic scene at Kyle and Val's wedding, but all we got instead was basically a shotgun wedding with little romance and no vows, just because they literally couldn't wait to go to bed together. It cheapened Val's whole "waiting until marriage" ideals, in my opinion. I guess I expected Val to not settle for less instead of somewhat lowering her standards for Kyle's sake. HE was the one who broke her heart, and yet he simply walks back into Val's life and almost immediately becomes her boyfriend, as if nothing happened in the last 5 years. In fact, the only reason he went back to Val's side was because he broke up with his previous fiancée! I expected him to search for Val just because he missed her and couldn't find real love elsewhere, not because his marriage plans fell through. It was also extremely annoying to see him brokenhearted about some other woman instead of Val. I think if the other woman hadn't cheated on Kyle, he would have happily married her and would never had gone back to Val's side at all, which really sucks big time.

I also miss the "YA" feel of the previous book, this one was written for adults and it really lacks that sense of "fun" we got in the first one.

I guess I'll do with this book what I always do after reading disappointing sequels: I pretend they don't exist and rewrite the story in my head instead. :)
5.0 von 5 Sternen Kyle is back and he is out to win Val this time.... 6. Januar 2017

A is for Abstinence by Kelly Oram is a follow-up/sequel of sorts to V is for Virgin. This time the story is told from Kyle’s perspective and can I just say it was perfect. I LOVED this book!!! It picks up about 8 months prior to the epilogue of Val’s story so you know where it’s going but also get what’s been happening with Kyle which again I loved.

Kyle Hamilton is (and I’m sorry Brian) my favorite Oram character. I’m in love with him! He’s confident, knows he’s sexy, and is unapologetic for it. He knows his reputation and in this book he’s working to prove to Val he’s a changed man. This is the Kyle I could see in Val’s story but he just wasn’t mature enough to admit it yet. He’s a man in love with a girl who he’s never forgotten and he’s out to win her heart this time *swoon*

Val has grown up a lot in this book. While we don’t get her perspective this time, there were a few scenes I really wish I could have known what was running through her head, specifically the music video. Val is the confident young woman I knew she’d grow up to be. She’s still toting her “Virgin Val” brand and you can tell it is starting to wear on her, especially as her friends are getting married and having children of their own. She’s ready for it but after the heartbreak of Kyle turning her away once, she’s hesitant and really you can’t blame her for it.

Overall I adored this book! While V is for Virgin is more for the mature young adult crowd, I would classify this one in a clean new adult genre. After all, Kyle is a rock star. I enjoyed reading this story from his perspective as he worked to change not only Val’s perception of him but the world’s perception of him. The abstinence bracelet Val gave him in the first book makes a reappearance in this one and he’s wearing it. How sexy is that?! If you enjoy clean, romantic comedy, I highly recommend you set aside some time and binge this book!
5.0 von 5 Sternen A great ending to a great story 31. Oktober 2016

Oh, this one was even better than the first one. I enjoyed the passing of time and the maturity that both Val and Kyle exhibited. They both grew into themselves and it was a lovely second chance at first love book.

Val remained true to herself and her virture and I applaud her for it. I don’t know that its a feasible option for everyone now a days but I loved how she owned if for herself and didn’t look down on others for their different beliefs. I also like how she evolved from being the face of Not Everyones Doing It into starting her own adoption agency and being a double major at Stanford. This girl has serious ambitions!

Kyle seemed to have the most growth emotionally and while I wasn’t completely in love with him, (I couldn’t move past his previous behavior in the first book) He did redeem himself for the most part. Him having a previous relationship really helped him to be more understanding with regards to her choice. Their relationship seemed to go pretty fast since they had not seen each other in four years but it still felt right to me. She helped him to see past himself and use his fame in a less selfish and more productive way.

It ended predictably for me but that’s fine because its what I wanted to happen. :) PS, it has a character from one of her other books referenced in it. I love that! So go read it already!

5.0 von 5 Sternen W is for Wonderful 17. Mai 2014
Von Jennifer R. Shiels - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
I just finished this book and I loved it. Like the first book, it was wonderful. There are alot of books out there that have similar things happening in them. This book and the first one - V is for Virgin are so original and different from the rest. I also loved how Kelly Oram had V is for Virgin from Valerie Jensen's point of view and how this book - A is for Abstinence from Kyle Hamilton's point of view. This book is 4 years later from the first book. Kyle thought he had it all, he had money, adoring fans, creativity and a love for music, and even was about to get married. At his birthday party, his fiancee tries to get him to play the song Cryin' Shame which was about Val Jensen. He has refused to play that song for years and doesn't want to. The song and the muse for the song haunt him even to this day but he doesn't ever let himself think about it. His fiancee tries to set him up and ends up cheating on him. Broken hearted, Kyle tries to lose himself in countless women but it's just not the same. He realizes that sex isn't the same without love and intimacy. He finally realizes that he let go of a once in a lifetime woman 4 years ago when he couldn't give Valerie what she asked for and needed. So he decides to finally start working on himself - he starts writing music again which he hasn't done since Reid died. He continues abstaining from sex. He does what he can to reconnect with Valerie. It has been 4 years and Valerie has graduated from Stanford with Economics and Political Science double degrees. In the fall, she is going back to Stanford to start her Masters Degree in Political Science. She has been busy with school and starting F is for Families that helps with adoption. She has seen lots of her friends meet the person they would love and ended up married. But she hasn't dated much and every boyfriend she ever had always ended up breaking up with her and hurting her because they do not want to wait till marriage to have sex. So she just stopped dating all together.

This book shows there is so much more to love and relationships than just sex. Kyle and Valerie are so different and from two different worlds. But that doesn't mean that they shouldn't be together. They just bring so many great things together and bring together so much more than superficial things. Valerie and Kyle have so much more to them than just Virgin Val and Rock Star Kyle Hamilton. They are actual people that have deep thoughts. Definitely worth the read.

4.5 stars -- Initial thoughts when I turned the page to the end: OMG OMGOMG!!! LOVED IT LOVED IT LOVED IT!!!! Then I glanced at some other people's reviews (which is a bad habit that I have to break), reflected on it as a whole, and realized there were some things that bothered me. But since you really can't beat that initial feeling of LOVE at the end of a book, I'm going to give it that extra bump up a half star anyways.

What I loved: OK, so I am a SUCKER (100%) for an epilogue type book. I know some people hate those, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE THEM!!! And since V is for Virgin didn't really satisfy my romance fix, this book gave me everything I was looking for. There were plenty of sweet moments, plenty of swoon moments, some great witty banter between Kyle and Val, and definitely some great chemistry.

Also, KYLE POV!!!! I am a sucker for a boy POV book, so I LOVED getting inside Kyle's head. I will admit, Kyle wasn't my ideal book boyfriend in V is for Virgin. Frankly, he was kind of a jerk. He had these moments, but they weren't really enough you know? But somehow in this book he made me fall for him. I mean, he still had his jerk-ish moments, but he really had grown a lot since the first book. And he wasn't just some perfect turn-around good guy. He was still Kyle Hamilton. He was just starting to see what was important in his life, and what was missing from it. I was so glad that we didn't start right off from the Epilogue from the previous book, but a few months before and got to see the events that led up to him appearing on the Connie Parker Show and surprising Val.

I will admit that there were times I doubted what drew him to Val so much. Yeah, I know they had unbelievable chemistry, but he really was set on this new path, and I wondered just how well he knew her to be so sure she was the one, you know? But it's not as though he didn't recognize some of that in the book and decide he wanted to know her better, so I was satisfied.

OK, so the little niggles: thongs are trashy?? OK, I will admit, I don't wear thongs. But that's because I can't get over the something between my butt cheeks thing. I was quite disappointed in Val for those comments. (And yes, I get that is a tiny thing) Also...well crap, I can't mention my other thing b/c it's *kind of* spoilery. I'll save it for the Goodreads review.

But seriously, if I don't think about it too much, I just bask in the enjoyment of this story. And can I say I really loved Robin again? I enjoyed the moments between her and Kyle, they were infrequent, but so sweet when they happened (and unexpected). All in all, this definitely lived up to my expectations and made me a happy reader!!
