The characters are assuming shape again after a number of books in the series where one frequently wondered when finally Banks or Annie would start getting in with their lives. The crimes are lovingly tailored for the Yorkshire landscapes. And it also is a good decision to develop Winsome as a main character and not a sidekick. However, the breath of truly great literature that one could feel with the likes of "In A Dry Season" ist missing. But that is not damning for no. 22 in a series of detective stories. Still a five star read.
