5.0 out of 5 stars Kraken Z53: Volle Begeisterung! Vergleich Noctua NH-D15S
Reviewed in Germany 🇩🇪 on 17 December 2022

    Mein Setup:
Meshify 2 C (2x Noctua NF A14 PWM Front Intake + 1x Noctua NF A12x25 PWM Back Outtake)
Kraken Z53 (2x Noctua NF A12x25 PWM Top Outtake)
    Intel i7 12700k Stock
    Thermal Grizzly CPU Kontaktrahmen
    Asus TUF 3090 OC

    Idle: Noctua: ~30 Grad / Z53: ~23 Grad
    Hunt Showdown (max Settings / 3840x1600): Noctua: ~55 Grad / Z53: ~45 Grad
    Cyberpunk 2077 (max Settings / 3840x1600): Noctua: ~60 Grad / Z53: ~52 Grad

    Negativ:
    - Preis

    Guten Rutsch!

This thing has a big contribution to my computer's beauty. It also very good at keeping the CPU cool. I felt it was unnecessary to spend the extra 100 for the z63. The digital pimp display just wasn't worth it for me...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great looking cooler, some issues though...
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 30 July 2020
I like this AIO and I wish I could have given it more stars but there are just a few things that need addressing IMO.

First is the pre-applied paste, just bin it and repaste. The pasted area is not big enough to fully cover the lid of a 3900x. Whilst troubleshooting some temp issues (more on that below), I ended up removing the cooler from the CPU only to find out that the paste didnt cover the entirety of the lid. Some might argue that it covers the chiplets but I prefer to see a full covering. Repasted with Noctua NT-H2 and reduced my load (AIDA64 Stress test) temps by 4-5 Degrees.

Secondly, if you're putting this on a Ryzen chip, setting fan curves based on CPU temp is a pain. Due to the spikeyness of "idle" temps on Ryzen and a lack of any kind of hysterisys control in the CAM software, at idle CAM reports temps jumping around from 36 to 51 degrees, compared to Ryzen master, CAM is often reporting anywhere between 10-15 degrees higher temps. The spikes in temps at idle is a known thing with Ryzen but I really feel like CAM needs to be more intelligent in monitoring AMD temps or to have some hysterisys control so a quick spike doesnt send your fans spinning up and down all the time. For now I have set fan speed based on liquid temps instead. Under load though the temp readings are fine and generally match Ryzen master.

My other niggle is with the CAM software, the display you have is fixed, so you can have CPU, GPU, Water temp or a CPU/GPU combined stats. What I'd really like it to be able to cycle through different stats screen on a timer. I'd also like to be able to pull data in from other sensors that my mainboard exposes... can't be that hard since I see them all in Corsair iQue.

Pump is a little buzzy at 95% and up but I suppose that's to be expected.

Other than those things, I really do quite like it... sure it's expensive but for a showpiece you can't beat it.

It would be unfair for me to rate the cooling efficiency since I ditched the provided fans for corsair LL140s and I dont think they are really capable of pushing as much air as the included NZXT fans. That said, running Cinebench R20 over 10 minutes, temps stabilised out at 75c and AIDA64 runs of 15 minutes saw peak temps of 84c, probably not too shabby for a 12 core processor doing double overtime :)

If like me you intend on fitting this in the top of a Corsair Crystal 680x case, don't bother with the premium EPS cables, there's just not enough room to fit, I ended up installing the cables that came with the PSU in order to get it to fit and even then it's tight.

4.0 out of 5 stars Simple installation, good cooler with caveats for the O11 Dynamic if you mount it on top
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 6 October 2020
The install was really straight forward:
Mount the back-plate to the motherboard > mount the fans on the radiator > mount the radiator to the case > mount the cooler on the CPU > connect the cables (tip: connect the cables before mounting the cooler as the orientation and angle can be confusing) to the correct headers and what not and we're good to go.

The build quality is good, the metal finish is as I expect from a £250 product. The fact that the connectors to the cooler can rotate freely whilst offer enough resistance to hold their orientation is great. The fans are a lot more stable (not wobbly) than my Corsair RGB fans, so overall I'm pleased with the end product.

For performance: I'm not a benchmarker, but cooling has significantly improved for me, dropping the load temp from 80+C to 45-50C; idle temp is around 27-30C - all in silent mode. My old cooler was crap though so don't expect the same performance comparison on your system unless you also cheaped out on your air cooler.

My only physical issue (but not a complaint) is that the domed mounting screws + the washer together form a rather high profile finishing - which is not great for the O11 Dynamic, which uses thin magnetic dust filters with very little head space. As a result the screws pressed against the dust filter actively prevents me from shutting my top panel now. This wouldn't be a problem with wide flat-head screws, but it's a very specific problem probably exclusive to my situation.

The Cam software does add more bloat to my OS, especially when I already use Corsair's iCue software - but it doesn't really affect my day to day use.

I'm a bit disappointed by the Cam software as well, as of Oct 2020:

The UI is clean but it doesn't compliment the UX: the minimalistic look and feel actually hide functionalities - it's not immediately obvious that you can click on the certain areas to expand additional options - it's only indicated by the mouse cursor changing to a pointed finger. For example, fan curve settings are hidden unless you click on the Pump and Fan rows.

Also there's currently a bug where the Dual Infographic display doesn't work with the Carousel mode (rotate between different displays), it just shows a blank screen when it gets to the dual info screen. This limits the potential of the display which I pay the premium this cooler for specifically.

The lack of Gif display in Carousel mode, or a Gif Carousel to rotate between gifs is also very disappointing, again one of the biggest selling points of this cooler. It should be easily added software side.

All in all I'm very happy for the purchase, but right now I don't think it's worth the £100 premium for the display until they improve the software. Will have to see in a few years how it holds out endurance wise.

I guess its what you'd expect from a £130 cooler. It has pre applied thermal paste, so I wouldnt bother with buying a tube. Pretty easy install in the H510 case, just make sure you put the cases bracket on the right way up first time!

Runs really quiet and keeps my PC cool as a cucumber. The infinite mirror effect looks nice and theres quite a few options for customization in the NZXT CAM software.

I would say it was worth the money for the aesthetics, if you like that sort of thing, but if you're on a tight budget and not bothered for looks, just get a Noctua. You can get the same cooling performance from a fan cooler, that goes for all AIOs.
