James David Vance, geboren 1984, stammt aus der Industriestadt Middletown im US-Bundesstaat Ohio. Während seiner Jugend erlebte er den wirtschaftlichen Niedergang und den Abstieg der Menschen dort mit, während er in zerrütteten Familienverhältnissen aufwuchs. Später studierte er an der Yale-Universität Jura und arbeitet heute in einer Investmentfirma. Sein Buch "Hillbilly Elegy" wurde ein überwältigender Erfolg. Vance lebt in Columbus, Ohio..



Gregor Hens, geboren 1965 in Köln, studierte Anglistik, Germanistik und Sprachwissenschaft an der Universität Bonn und in den Vereinigten Staaten. 1995 wurde er an der University of California in Berkeley promoviert. Er lehrte von 1995 bis 2012 an der Ohio State University und wohnt seit 2013 in Berlin. Neben seiner schriftstellerischen Arbeit ist er auch als Übersetzer tätig; unter anderem übersetzte er George Packer und Jonathan Letham.

J.D. Vance grew up in the Rust Belt city of Middletown, Ohio, and the Appalachian town of Jackson, Kentucky. He enlisted in the Marine Corps after high school and served in Iraq. A graduate of the Ohio State University and Yale Law School, he has contributed to the National Review and is a principal at a leading Silicon Valley investment firm. Vance lives in San Francisco with his wife and two dogs.
