Active 360° hybrid noise cancellation (up to 35dB)Tronsmart Apollo Bold is equipped with hybrid active noise cancellation technology (feedforward+feedback ANC) along with 6 microphones, so noise can be suppressed at each corner. Besides, it can suppress noise up to 35dB from the full frequency, while most earphones can only reduce noise up to 25-28dB. |
Qualcomm Hi Tech QCC5124 ChipThe Tronsmart Apollo Bold headphones use Qualcomm QCC5124 flagship chip, which has not been used in any other product. This chip supports active noise reduction and Bluetooth signal processing, so that these two functions can achieve the best effect without interference. Other active noise cancelling headphones on the market require two chips to support these two functions. |
TWS + technology, no delay. Our Apollo Bold uses TrueWireless Stereo Plus synchronous signal transfer technology to ensure that the left and right headphones receive Bluetooth signals at the same time. Most TWS headphones (including AirPods Pro) use true wireless stereo technology. The main headphone first receives the signal and then transmits it to another earphone, so there will be delays. * TrueWireless Stereo Plus synchronous signal transmission technology only for compatible devices. |

Gut:
- Sound: Meine Musik klang gut.

Here's my take:
*** Fit ***
Out of the box, the mid sized tips did a fairly good job but I switched them out for some memory foam tips to get a better seal.
With the memory foam tips on. These buds felt great in the ear. They're light, don't create any discomfort after hours of use and also look the part.
I tried to shake them out to test their "gym potential" and managed to get one of them out but only after a pretty aggressive shaking and jolt.
*** Connectivity ***
I have an android phone (10, TWS+) as my main mobile and the setup was straight forward.
One thing I did notice is that there are 2 connections, one for each bud. Both connect automatically but if I manually connect via the saved devices, I have to connect both buds one at a time.
This is more of an observation than anything else as Tronsmart advertise Qualcomm's new "TrueWireless™ Stereo Plus synchronous connectivity" so it makes sense that both buds have their own connection instead of the standard daisy-chaining.
It means the buds can just focus on a single connection instead of alternating between receiving and forwarding on.
These are the defaults for the connection:
AVRCP: 1.4
Audio codec: aptX TWS+ audio
Sample Rate: 48.0 kHz
bits per sample: 16 bits/sample
I had one dropout on the left bud after a while, to fix I just popped them back in the case and took them out again.
I've tested through walls and throughout the house and haven't had any other issues, distance appears to be as advertised which is great news.
I also connected them to my laptop for a MS Teams call, no issues there, the mic is fairly good, not incredible but just fit for purpose and better than most. cVc is all over the place these days but its not enough to combat the hinderance of having mics in your ears.
All 4 of the earphones I tested had mics that were just ok but I'd much rather have solid ANC than better isolation for voice if thats the compromise Sony and Tronsmart had to make.
*** Features and controls ***
The touch controls are quite intuitive and very responsive.
The only issue I came across was when trying to skip to the next track, on a couple of occasions, I accidentally activated the assistant instead. I think this is just a learning curve and hopefully when they release the app I can tweak the touch controls to my liking.
Taking one of the buds out pauses playback, this was handy when out and about. At the checkout I can just pop one out for a second then pop it back in and playback automatically resumes. Nice touch.
*** ANC ***
One of the big features for myself.
I commute a lot and having ANC is pretty much a must so I dont have to crank up the volume and trash my eardrums.
I'd put the ANC up there with the Sonys after achieving a good seal on both. I tried blasting a fan in my ear, walking down a busy road and loading a few white noise tracks. The Apollos provided that level of tranquillity in amongst chaos.
ANC should always create that sensory confusion where your ears hear one thing and your eyes see another which was absolutely the case here.
There is a small difference in sound with ANC on, it shifts focus a little to the lows not in a negative way, just more of a punchier profile. Turning ANC off takes some substance out of the sound I tend to find the same with all ANC though.
Its well implemented by tronsmart and exceeded my expectations by a good margin.
*** Sound ***
I've tested with a wide range of music to try and get a good feel for where these fit. I'm by no means an expert so these are just my opinions, a veteran audiophile can weigh in on the nuances.
The Apollos are very much my style, the bass is ready at any moment to kick you in the side of the head, mids and highs are clear and very present. Playing the Oblivion soundtrack was a good indicator, the drums are very punchy and the vocals kind of float above.
I've listened for a fair few hours and would put these way above their weight bracket indicated by price.
There is room for improvement, as always, but in most areas the sound comes across as excellent and very balanced.
Classical sounded very clear and everything is where it should be and cracking out some Justice awoke the dormant powerful lows.
Vocals dont get lost and the mids bring it all together.
A great performer across the board and well suited to a diverse range of music. When you want to listen to some gym beats, they'll give you the explosive sound. When you're back home broken and bruised, they'll gently ease you back into recovery.
*** Battery ***
What's there to say about battery? I'd say its about on point alongside their marketing guides. 10 hours is generous but its not far off if you're listening without ANC and at 50% volume.
Realistically, people will want to use the ANC and pump up the volume a little more the 50%, I got about 5 hours before they had to be returned to their case to get juiced up but its all subjective on how you're using them.
I think they hold up well, I hate the inconvenience of charging earphones, I've had wired sets that needed charging for the ANC and I'd always be on my way somewhere when it dropped out.
These have enough range to get me from A-to-B and then I can just pop them back in the case to top-up.
*** Summary ***
Im a big fan of the apollo bolds. Quick to set up, a great balanced sound and an easy recommendation even way above their RRP. Well suited to those who like to have depth to their music with all the additional extras of a top end brand.
Interesting to see what the app brings in september, aptX HD would be a welcome addition if its possible (the qualcomm chip supports it) and the custom control mapping will come in handy.

Interesting to see what the app brings in september, aptX HD would be a welcome addition if its possible (the qualcomm chip supports it) and the custom control mapping will come in handy.
Initially I experienced some issues with sound randomly cutting out and stuttering. This happened mostly when connected to computer or TV at 3 meter distance. I didn't experience this with my iPhone.
Active Noise Cancellation is very poor in my opinion, basically non-existent in comparison to passive cancellation. Tested between 20-30dB. Does not reduce as advertised. Nowhere near comparable to either Airpods Pro or Sony WF-1000XM3 but is advertised as comparable on Tronsmart website.
I experienced some Pairing issues.
Pairing error: Using iPhone these buds only pairs one earbud and iOS says it fails on pairing request popup for the second bud. Having said this it does seem to go into a Master/Slave mode regardless of the error popup.
Does not perform True Wireless Stereo Plus feature of simultaneously connecting to both earbuds. I’ve since learnt that this is not supported by my iPhone nor many other devices/phones including older Android devices. Some later Android devices are supposed to support this feature but I was unable to test for this review.
So for most, only one earbud goes into pairing mode and pairs as the master. Difficult to control which earbud except by which earbud you retrieve from the charging case first.
Sometimes the Bluetooth disconnects and goes into pairing mode so it won’t connect with the previously paired device without first telling the device to forget the earbuds and then repair again which is frustrating.
When paired with the computer, if the pairing linked to the wrong bud as the master bud, I had the unfortunate experienced of their being no output connection. Very frustrating. You then have to go into computer's Bluetooth settings and disconnect that bud and then try to connect to the other bud to get both input and output, but since both buds have the same name it is very difficult to connect to the correct bud instead of accidentally reconnecting to the wrong bud. One bud tended to support 1 input and 0 outputs while the other supported 0 ins and 2 outs (stereo). So if you're not connected to the correct one you get no sound. Additionally the mic input sound works intermittently. Bluetooth connectivity also intermittent.
In User Manual the Clear Pairing List function is listed as the tap and hold for 5 seconds method but Tronsmart YouTube video says this is the Reset function so there is conflicting information between their print and video instructions. I was able to perform the tap and hold for 5 seconds method.
In User Manual the Reset function is listed as the tap 5 times method. I could not find a video on this method and I was unable to perform this method on the earbuds as they did not respond to the tap 5 times method. It took me a month to get this method to work by chance so I’m afraid I’m unable to give instruction on how I did it in the end.
Sound attenuation issues:
It's seems the headphones have either a compressor or a noise gate built into them which attenuates sounds below a certain threshold. This makes it very frustrating when trying to watch TV shows as the background sounds can cut out between dialogue and is slow to kick back in when dialogue continues making you miss the beginning of sentences spoken by characters on the screen. I had the buds at full volume and the TV volume output set quite low when experiencing this issue. I did find a way around this however - turning the TV volume up and the earbud volume down a bit to compensate for the increased volume overall, seemed to fix this. My guess is that with the TV volume being higher that meant that the audio input into the earbuds exceeded the built-in threshold and so was no longer subject to attenuation by the built-in noise gate.
Call recipients reported decent sound indoors but when I was outside the calls were unintelligible to the recipient. Quiet neighbourhood, quiet street, but a bit of a breeze = impossible to have a telephone conversation.
Battery life of case not as advertised in my experience. After single use of earbuds, from full charge, for a few hours I’d put earbuds back in case to charge, the following morning when earbuds removed from case again I found the case flashes red indicating the case had less than 10% battery left.
I also had issue with the left bud not charging due to charging connection issues.
Otherwise the battery life of the earbuds themselves was good enough that I was not able to run them down in a single sitting. I expect that this would be different if I was on a long haul flight but a quick top-up in the charging case would see me through without problem.
The long awaited app has now been released. I hope Tronsmart do better in future versions of the app as the initial version was not very helpful in my opinion.
- Contains 5 useless EQ presets without any graphical representation neither for your reference nor customisation.
- Allows limited touch customisation but I didn’t find any need to change from the existing configuration
- Allows switch control for noise cancellation feature but this is available on the earbuds anyway through the earbuds touch control
- Shows individual earbud battery life but not battery life of the case
- Provides function to update firmware (only useful feature in my opinion) but you have to manually do each earbud separately
Having highlighted all these issues I must say that these earbuds sound pretty good. I generally liked the sound for music listening. I noticed, when watching adverts (between YouTube videos, for instance), the bass was a bit overwhelming but I did not find the same when listening to my own music library.
I also found the earbuds to be comfortable and surprisingly stable in my ears. They look good too.
I wouldn’t purchase these for their Active Noise Cancellation abilities since they definitely fall short but they do offer a hear-through/ambient sound mode that works quite well if you need to be able to hear your surroundings while wearing the buds. The ambient mode is a bit tinny and artificial but you quickly become accustomed to it after switching to ambient mode.
I’d also be cautious about purchasing these if you plan to use these for telephone call while outdoors.
However if you mostly want to listen to music and have a good looking, secure set of true wireless earbuds plus you understand the quirks and maybe find them on sale then these are not a bad purchase (especially if you happen to have an Android device that supports True Wireless Stereo Plus). Just don’t buy into all the marketing hype because although these are not bad earbuds I don’t believe they are quite as advertised.
I have had and returned two of these units from the same seller both with the same stupid problem.
These buds move about and rattle against the lid, when the case is on its side (ie, In your pocket). Resulting in failure to charge on one or both buds (consistently). A pathetic problem to have on a £100 headset. video attached.
> Music sounds okay.
> call quality like the Bluetooth connection range is quite good.... indoors
> call quality outdoors is terrible.
> Bluetooth outside is adequate providing your phone is close by, like in your coat pocket. otherwise audio drop outs occur. (Samsung galaxy s8+)
> Signal drop outs, outdoors if you cup your hands over your ears.
> Wearing a hood in the event of rain, activates all the clumsy controls. useless.
> All expense spared on the travel case that hates for you to walk. Its the cheapest feeling/performing charge case I have ever had the displeasure of trying.
> App. basic on par with the case. 4 preset EQs, ANC on/off. firmware update option.
> Max volume ... pathetic. Listening to these buds at 50% volume to preserve battery life unless in a library is not practical.
> ANC. Okay with cars, Terrible with voices, tractors, dogs,
> ENC outdoors. Laughable. Caller told my I wasn't clear and it sounded like I was walking away from my mic. (sat on a bench in a quiet park).
> Ambient mode - needs volume gain.
> IP rating of 45 but advertised as dust-proof. that would make them rated as IP 55, I wonder which one the certificate says.
> Runtime of 10 hours. In reality 4/5 hours listening to a audio-book, Likely less if listening to proper music. There is the recharge case of course but make sure that thing is left on a flat surface for the duration of the charge.
> Quality control. Abysmal... Two units same problem/fault, clearly a design problem.
> 4 power statuses in one red led. Clearly run out of budget when it came to the box.
> Warranty. You get 6months extra warranty (taking it to 1yr 6months) if you register with tronsmart. Take that with a pinch of salt though as they're unhelpful in the event you have any problems. You do however have the chance to be a "smart plus member" and will be given free products providing you have 20k subs/followers for a awesome review of course. The cancer of reviews.
These certainly do not live up-to the hype I was expecting when I read/watch a million and half reviews.
get something from a established company that will honor a warrenty and provide support.
These buds are okay but definitely not at a £100 price tag. I paid 69.99 and that is still too much.
This is a 3-star buy at best, I removed a star for not being able to contact the seller, minus another star for the attitude of the official tronsmart support. Taking the buy to a 1-star experience
Not a recommend buy.
The sound quality is fantastic! Very clear. Songs that you have heard hundreds of times elsewhere will sound completely different through these, and in a good way! That is how highly I rate these. The active noise cancellation works a treat - blocking out all environment background sounds - perfect when travelling and working out - they even block out the (terrible) music that I hear in the spin classes at my gym.
The touch controls work very well. The gestures are simple and the touch sensitivity is spot-on. The battery life is unrivalled! You will get 10 hours off a full charge with a further 20 from the charging case alone.
Overall, these are a very high quality set of earphones and for under £100 this is an absolute gem.
Of course these do have active noise cancelling which the CAs do not, so how does that perform. It works and will reduce transport noise such as train and plane but not as much as I would have liked, part of the issue is that the passive sound isolation really isn't that great to begin with meaning the active has to work harder. This might be improved with a better set of tips but I have not tried any. Low end sounds are reduced but voices come through quite loudly and this is with pass through off. With the pass through or ANC on, there was a hiss going on in the background though with music on it is not so noticable. Of course the massive bass these put out also helps out here by masking external sounds.
When you take one bud out, the music pauses which seems to work nicely.
So sound and ANC are mediocre, not terrible, but not great either. How about build quality. The case they are in which doubles as the charger does feel cheap and somewhat of an after thought, the buds themselves feel fine and don't feel like they will fall to bits in a few minutes.
I got these whilst waiting for an update for the wf 1000s and yes I can probably live with them for a while, if you need ANC on a budget, these are not bad but if you don't need ANC or a massive bass fix, you might be better off picking up some melomanias or similar.
