Rezension bezieht sich auf: Dark Places: A Novel (Taschenbuch)
I will not summarize the content of this book. Just read it in the description.
It is not a nice book about nice people. Most probably you'll find the protagonist Libby not likeable at all, nor any of the others.
But the more you read, the more you'll realize what made the siblings the way they are/were. You can't help but feel empathy about the miserable life they had, what these children had to endure, while their loving mother was unable to cope but still bravely struggeling to keep their farm.
This book with its masterful language and its brilliant characterization of people sucks you in, page after page and whenever you think, you've figuered out what happened all these years ago, the next pages will make you doubt.
"Dark Places" is so much more than your average thriller. It is one of the most faszinating and disturbing books I have read in a long time and reminded me of "In Cold Blood" by Truman Capote.
Be prepared that the book stays in your head for a long time: it is so intense.
