Mere suspense - fantastic story!,
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Gone, English edition (Taschenbuch)
I'm reading quite a lot of English books and GONE grabbed my attention from the first to the last page. It took me just two days to read it and I was hungry for the the sequel HUNGER (which I finished in another two days).
I won't tell much about the plot itself as I don't want to spoil anything but I'd like to point out that it is worth a try if someone likes science fiction.
The people in GONE are just kids up to 14 years old. All adults are mysteriously gone and the kids of a small town have to get along alone. Sure they don't behave like adults and their struggle for life, the battle between good and evil, is described vividly and believable. Often there are hard setbacks for the "heros", there is some violence and humiliation in the novel and the plot is sometimes downright unfair, but this is what makes the it so gripping as you badly want to know how it ends.
The book is suggested for readers of at least 14 years and older and although some readers state that it is in some parts not convenient for youngsters I'd say that it is not as bad as some so called "kids-movies". There is nothing in it a 14-year-old reader coudn't mentally handle.
The story also contains quite a few aspects that might seem a bit strange at first (e.g. some mutations of animals), but hey, this is a science fiction story! The author created a new world with many different aspects, so just try to get into it and enjoy and don't give too many thoughts about whether something is actually possible or not.
I think this book is worth reading. I really enjoyed it myself and I'm definitely going to read the sequels.
