Ideological Fanaticism dressed up as Scholarship,
Verifizierter Kauf(Was ist das?)
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Debt: The First 5,000 Years (Gebundene Ausgabe)
David Graeber is an anarchist and a reader in social anthropology at Goldsmiths College in London, Yale declined to provide him tenure. It quickly becomes apparent that Graeber would be more at home writing about bi-pedalism and magic rituals in Madagascar than about the history of debt. His insufficient training in legal, financial or historiographical matters makes his book read more like one long political activists' pamphlet that is so biased and ignorant that one has to wonder why it was published at all. The reason becomes clear however after Graeber portrays himself as someone who has all the answers, lecturing a lawyer no less about the world financial system at considerable length in his introduction. Graeber then claims an ignorant drunk banker joined the conversation and Graeber non-chalantly accuses him of promiscuity. I am not joking, this is about the level of this book. I literally cringed reading the introduction. This book is basically one long propaganda piece, anti-bankers, in favour of the occupy wall street movement and those groups who want to just write-off third world debt across the board. So if you are looking for anachist, anti-capitalism babble then you will enjoy this book. However, if you want a dispassionate, balanced history of debt you are best to ignore this long anarchist pamphlet.
I have never returned a book in my life, but I think that is about to change.

Well, first i would say that you should read more about him than just the wikipedia page !! Secondly, polemical pieces are everywhere especially the books written for common people. Try reading this about David Graeber - http://www.nytimes.com/2005/12/28/nyregio
Also, stop making personal attacks and stop trashing everything you don't agree to. Though i don't agree to some of the conclusions in the book, that doesn't mean i don't appreciate the new viewpoint to debt which i gained from the book !! Have more humility and less egotism...
