a feast indeed,
Rezension bezieht sich auf: A Song of Ice and Fire 4. A Feast for Crows (Gebundene Ausgabe)
I finished it yesterday and was not disappointed. I was wary out of fear that Martin might be pulling a Jordan on us - you know, writing 1000 pages with no content, but this fear was unreasonable.
Things happen in this book, oh yes. No huge battles but a lot of character developments, intrigues and murder AND you learn a lot of the history of Westeros in countless small anecdotes and stories from the characters, which I personally found very satisfying (War at the Stepstones, Bloodraven etc)
I only hope that Dance with Dragons comes out 2006/2007 and NOT 2010, the five years we had to wait for this book.
Which brings me to two minor points of critisicm:
Five years waiting for this book - which is only a "half one"- was too long. I understand Martin's reason to cut it in half but he should have taken one more character in to make the book bigger. It merely has 680 pages and - though it is great to read it - one is left with the feeling, "that was all?"
Then, the cliffhangers at the end - sorry Mr Martin but this was a bit cheap. After waiting so long for this book you could at least bring it to a satisfying end like you did with the other ones (examples: Game of Thrones ended with THE KING IN THE NORTH!, Clash of Kings with the Battle for Kings Landing and storm of Swords with many furious finales like Stannis breaking the Wildling siege and others.
This ending here - it hangs suspended in midair and that is neither very professional from you nor fair for your fans. I wouldn't complain if the next installment came out in a couple of months but it is known how long it takes you to write and to wait four or more years on the solution is not good (Dance with Dragons which is announced for 2006 -which I doubt- won't bring the solution because it will focus on other characters. So we have to wait for the book after it to know what happened with Queen Cersei, Brienne and Arya)
Hmm these minor points have taken quite long to write and I realize for myself that they are indeed troubling me. I really hope you are able to finish Dance with Dragons 2006 Mr Martin then I might glue the two volumes together because they should be one book not two.

Hmm... it is almost five and a half of year ago. Reviewer was so optimistic about next book... It's just has been announced for July 2011.... We are waiting... still.
