Rezension bezieht sich auf: Fearless: The Undaunted Courage and Ultimate Sacrifice of Navy SEAL Team SIX Operator Adam Brown (Gebundene Ausgabe)
I've read the story about Adam Brown's life without putting it down until reaching the backcover. As another reviewer has also pointed out, the author's writing style isn't as polished as some other military biography writers out there on the market, but the story tends to get a hold of you like no other book I've read about soldiers involved in current conflicts. The movie "Act of Valor" reminded me of some of the things described here, so I'm guessing that Adam Brown's life and death might have been influential in creating that movie. Be that as it may, I truly believe that this story is one that deserves to be read by many.
As for the downside, when I had finished reading the main text and read where the original idea and money for the book came from, I could hardly have been more surprised. It appears that the National Rifle Association was involved from its inception until its publishing. A good thing to do, no doubt, making the story of a fallen elite soldier like Adam Brown's available to the public. But knowing what the NRA, with its great proponent the actor/political activist Charlton Heston, stands for and thinking about all the innocent gang-related victims guns manufactured and sold in the US are claiming each year in the US and Mexico alone (not to speak of the paranoia many American people are living with), it horrifies me to think that Adam Brown's family should have been lured by NRA right wing hawks into allowing them to abuse the story of their son's remarkable life and premature death as political propaganda.
So there you have it, a nevertheless gripping and inspiring story of one elite soldier's life and untimely death on the battlefield, blemished only by its shameless abuse as political propaganda by the NRA. Can't help wondering what Adam Brown's lifestory would have looked like in a book if an objective writer had been asked to do the honors. Future readers should be aware of politically inspired descriptions of certain events in the book. Do not be lulled into accepting just anything for granted.
