Vital and lively,
Rezension bezieht sich auf: The Piano Album (Audio CD)
Stephen Hough is a recognised as one of the finest pianists on the international stage. Since he won first prize in the Naumburg International Piano Competition in New York in 1983, he has performed with American and European orchestras under many of the major conductors in the world, and is as frequent performer at festivals Ravinia, Tanglewood, Blossom, Edinburgh, Salzburg, Sapporo and the BBC Proms.
This work of piano music includes many 'serious' pieces, but also some fun and playful pieces (Richard Rodgers, 'My Favourite Things', for example). Many of the pieces are recast by Hough not just for piano, but for his particular style, which is lively and elegant at the same time.
Major composers on this piece include Chopin, Liszt, Paderewski, and Saint-Saens. Lesser known but brilliant composers include MacDowell, Quilter, Dohnanyi, Gabrilowitsch, Friedman, Godowsky, Levitzki, Palmgren, and Moszkowski. This is fun album; Stephen Hough is a brilliant player, with a very vital spirit, and this collection shows Hough's dedication both to classical and to contemporary music.
