A stunning account on what fundamental rights at the very base of a democracy and further more the foundation of our society are abandoned in the name of fighting terrorism. The question is not if surveillance or spying should be abandoned in general - there are good reasons for governments and law enforcement agencies. It's the checks and balances that decide if a state or society becomes another iteration of Hitlers 3rd Reich, the Sowjetunion, China or any other oppressive regime. The story in this book tells to what extend modern technology has been abused to attack fundamental rights people take for granted. It also is a clear call to action for citizens to exercise the rights given by laws and constitutions to hold governments responsible for their actions.
