Jonathan Safran Foer is giving a comprehensive view on the American animal industry. He clearly describes the implications that meat (and fish) mass production has on the welfare of the animals themselves, and on the quality of the food and impact on the environment. He makes a clear case for eating vegetarian, or at least drastically reducing meat consumption.
As a reader from Europe, I would have wished to get a an international aspect on the meat production industry as well. What J. S. Foer describes is the US meat industry -- are we better in Europe, or is it just a variation of the same? Which countries do make it better, which ones don't, and are there some example of local practices that can be learnt from?
