Rezension bezieht sich auf: Forbidden Love (Dell Historical Romance) (Taschenbuch)
Well, there is a lot to criticize about this book. As people said, the hero is hardly the gentleman you meet in most romance books. He forces himself on the heroine more than once and just because she desires him too much and can be convinced in participating, its no less a very questionable way of telling a lovestory. He is not just dominating, he downright bullies the heroine throughout the book, not once considering her tender age (she is just 17).
The heroine probably acts consistent with her age, since she is silly more than not. When becoming pregnant instead of actually keeping her promise and telling the father of her child about it, she invents a silly schoolgirls plan to marry somebody else and pass the child off as his. Of course the plan doesn't go as foreseen. This leads to more misunderstandings and more aggressive behavior of the hero.
The writing is also not very impressive. I missed the development of chemistry between hero and heroine. The writer tells me that they are attracted to each other, but I couldn't really "feel" it, let alone understand why these two are two beans in a pot. The story seems to be driven more by keeping complications going than anything, simple to fill enough pages than for actual reasons. For example why couldn't the hero come up with an annulment earlier, when he found he loved the heroine so desperately and wanted to be with her?
Well, this book is quite terrible in it's treatment of women and the story is strangely politically uncorrect. The two stars are given, because despite all the elements I disliked, the story kept me going till the end. It did have a certain fascination and I must confess at one point I hardly expected a happy ending.
