Interesting and important, but not exactly neutral,

Rezension bezieht sich auf: Eating Animals (Taschenbuch)
I am a little in two minds about this book. On the one hand, the topic is obviously very important, and Jonathan Safran Foer has delivered a well written, gripping and disturbing account of the animal meat industry. As such, it is certainly worth reading, whether you eat animals or not. On the other hand, and despite the fact that I am vegetarian myself, I was a little disappointed at the author's implication that the only ethical solution to this problem is to stop eating animals altogether. I wish that he had used all of the information he gathered about small family farms to provide a more neutral discussion of the options, including some specific suggestions on how to eat responsibly without becoming vegetarian (which most people are simply not willing to do). As a result, people may be genuinely concerned about animal welfare (and their own health) while reading this book, but I am not sure it will have much effect beyond that.
