Beautiful Music From The Soul - A Masterpiece!,
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Man on the Rocks (Deluxe Edition) (Audio CD)
'Man On The Rocks' is simply a fantastic album - great songs, amazing musicianship, and wonderful production; it has been 6 years since Mike's last album and it has definitely been worth the wait! This album features Luke Spiller (from band -The Struts) on vocals throughout, who does an awesome job; though Mike has had many incredible singers in the past, it might be hard to imagine any single one of them singing every song on this album and being able to vary their voice as much whilst presenting the contrasting emotions and intensity that Luke does. The other musicians include legendary bassist Leland Sklar (who has played on over 2000 albums) and drummer John Robinson (the most recorded drummer in history, who has played on Daft Punk, Michael Jackson etc). For those that have only heard the single 'Sailing' which is a great uptempo catchy track, as Mike himself has said that one song doesn't represent the entire album - the album has an eclectic mix of diverse music from folk influences and touches of beautiful traditional instrumentation on a song like 'Moonshine' to touching slower songs like 'Following The Angels' to heavier rock songs like 'Chariots' and more!
What becomes immediately apparent and clear from hearing this album, is just how much Mike Oldfield cares about his craft and how much passion & dedication he really puts in to not only making a simply stunning album but also offering up a piece of his soul that will reach out and touch yours! Long term Mike Oldfield fans will absolutely love this album, it is definitely one of his best; and the casual listener or someone not familiar with a lot of his work (or who thinks ah the Tubular Bells guy) will enjoy this album tremendously too especially listening without preconceived notions, and an open heart and mind. The album is also available in deluxe 2CD version which has Instrumental versions of all the songs - many albums with vocals stripped away would not stand up well but this album certainly does. For me this is the finest album release of 2014 (I know it is only March but using my crystal ball I just don't see anything on the horizon or coming in the rest of the year that will touch this). Buy it now, you won't be disappointed!
