Polit-Thriller in Fantasy Setting,
Verifizierter Kauf(Was ist das?)
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Elantris (Taschenbuch)
I've read Sandersons Mistborn Trilogy, and licked it a lot, so looking for more of his work, I picked up Elantris.
Elantris is fantasy - it has princes, princesses, kings, swords, daggers and magic. That would make it Fantasy. However the story Sanderson is trying to tell is really about Politics, Religion, Social Systems and a power struggle based on these issues. All this is not very believable - everything is way too simplistic, starting from the characters to the whole political settings. Characters are two Dimensional, with the only depth added by some terrible Hollywood Movie type of 180 Degree character turns. This is topped by the fact that the bad-guy-turned good, who has done enough bad things to deserver to die, then actually is killed, only to turn around and kill the last Boss Mob at the, therefore deserving a Medal and Funeral in the new Square of honor. I mean come on - how much terrible cliche can you pile up? There are Marvel Comics out there with more depth ...
On the other hand Sanderson still has a captivating style of writing - after all I finished the book, even through the build up phase, which is a bit lengthy in the first part of the book. I would however recommend the Mistborn Trilogy, and only pick this book up, if you're really die hard fans.
