“Wheat Belly 30-Minute (Or Less!) Cookbook” written by cardiologist William Davis and beautifully illustrated with photographs made by Linda Pugliese is a book that combines scientific facts with beautifully presented recipes, therefore much more than just another cookbook that talks about preparing wheat-free meals.

At the beginning of the book author provides an excellent introduction that gives background to the reasons why this book is released; he encourages readers to change the thinking that giving up wheat is too time-consuming, too inconvenient or involves too many hard-to-find ingredients.
He emphasizes that it’s normal that it will take some time for people to adjust their diet because today 20 – 50% of all calories we eat is wheat due to convenience, portability, ubiquity and addiction that this kind of food causes.

In order to help people to decide embarking on the journey to get rid of the wheat and successfully go through that process, this book was created – a collection of tools and ideas that will help one to embrace new lifestyle.

The first thing that the author recommends is that you clean your kitchen from all wheat products, for its shelves to become first wheat-free things in your life, and then go to purchase foods that will allow making of non-wheat meals for about 30 minutes, contrary to the prejudices that such thing is not possible.

The author offers a variety of recipes for all kinds of meals, starting from breakfasts, mains dishes, side dishes, desserts, snacks, and some special occasion menus, all of them accompanied by beautiful photographs that will immediately attract your attention being one of the reasons why you'll immediately want to try to prepare these dishes.

Therefore, this book that is much more than a cookbook, though it contains 200 recipes, can fully be recommended; besides that it’ll show you that it is not expensive and time-consuming to prepare wheat-free dishes, using it you’ll certainly learn a lot of things that will allow you to live better and healthier and reduce your weight.

Being a strict vegetarian who is GI, I promised myself quite a bit from getting this cookbook. Unfortunately the "main courses" read like this:

chicken with...
beef with...
schnitzel with...
I found a total of TWO recipes that did not contain dead animal. That is NOT CREATIVE, folks. Well, meat! Thanks!... NEVER would have thought of that, having no bread........ *aargh!!* :(((((

The dessert section, sweets and breadlike thingies deserve credit though. The crackers are actually quite enjoyable!

I am a big fan of Dr. Davis and follow his blog, etc. I have read his other book too. These recipes are tasty and do not use outlandish ingredients and are quick to prepare ,,,,but most of all they taste GOOD! He has done the world a lot of good spreading the word on how to get rid of that wheat belly and lowering levels of triglycerides, etc. and insulin, etc. in the blood. A good sense way of eating.....a lifestyle not a diet at all. Even if we just incorporate some of his recipes and advise we definitely see and feel the difference and our waistline will stand up and take notice too.
