This is the first book in years that kept me reading half the night until I'd finished it. I'd never read anything by Tim Parks before, but I'm sure to do so again. The story, or more accurately memoir, is told by a young man in the first person. It's a witty portrayal of someone typical of modern young professionals. It's also about old-fashioned falling in love, social pressures and later, the often disastrous attempt to patch up a relationship by starting a family. I don't want to reveal any more, but in the end no one wins here and that's what makes it all so devastating and compelling. Do read it!
