I bought True Love mainly because I was interested in the concept. Improv is scary at the best of times (also a lot of fun), but I imagine improvising to tell love stories to be downright frightening for an actor. There is no text to hide behind, no writer, no director who shape your character more than you do. You have to bring all the emotions to the table or the story will just not work. The results in True Love are stellar, though. All of the five half-hour episodes have a feeling of truth to them. Every emotion, every change in perception can be felt very directly. I could often predict what's going to happen next, not because the plot is simple but because the body language of the actors changes before their words follow their emotions. This is by far the best and most truthful depiction of love that I have seen on DVD in a while. As a bonus point, the location and scenery are stunning. Hence, all five stars for True Love.
