A starting point, but certainly there are better ones ...

All in all an interesting read, with quite a few ideas.
Unfortunately those ideas tend to be all over the place. A lot is touched but nothing goes really deep.
Having read Dramatica, I find that their theory takes Truby's concepts to a much more comprehensive and matured place (e.g. that the main character is not necessarily the protagonist and that the main character might be changed by someone else then the antagonist, etc.)
What makes certain passages annoying is Truby's rather cocky attitude. He constantly keeps reminding the reader that he knows what most writers do wrong and most screenwriting out there is bad because writers do not follow his approach. He writes off the 3 act structure as being mechanical but in turn delivers another (more complicated) structure, which leads to organic plots, so he states, but only if it is not applied in a mechanical fashion. Seems to be circular reasoning to me. So, read with a critical mind.
