5.0 von 5 Sternen Yet Another of Card's Incredible Visions
There is so much to say about this novel. Card, as usual, keeps his characters interesting by keeping his hero's and villans true to life. The interesting characters, and interesting situations that they face, are so brilliant that readers are forced to remember that it's just a story. While reading, however, you are taken away from reality and placed on the planet...

First of all, compoaring this work with the Enders series is not exactly fair. They are very different series in both direction and intent. Ender's Game was always intended to be a 'deep' book, while the Homecoming series is simply action adventure scifi. In that, it serves its purpose. The problem with this volume is that after the speed of the first book, this one...

The interesting characters, and interesting situations that they face, are so brilliant that readers are forced to remember that it's just a story. While reading, however, you are taken away from reality and placed on the planet "Harmony" where you feel for the characters and can't help but be in constant awe with thier situations and challenges. I fell in love with this story.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Card is a masterful storyteller, 2. Juni 2000
Rezension bezieht sich auf: The Call of Earth (Homecoming) (Taschenbuch)
I started the Homecoming series doubting it could top the Ender series. But what I found is a rich and compelling story, filled with spiritual significance. In Call of Earth, Card continues Homecomings with an even stronger story than the first. Brillant writing and amazing integration of a creative story, strong character development, and deep themematic elements.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Spannend, Überraschende Wendung und viele interessante Charaktere, 11. April 2013
Von
Rezension bezieht sich auf: The Call of Earth (Homecoming) (Taschenbuch)

Very high recommendation.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A great peice of literature., 23. April 2000

Rezension bezieht sich auf: The Call of Earth (Homecoming) (Taschenbuch)
I thoroughly enjoined this addition to the quintet. Never was there a time when I felt bored with the story line or discontent with the tempo.
Orson Scott Card writes great literature. He ties in an underlying philosophy to every novel and set of books that he writes. After you read one of his books, you come away a better person than you were when you started.
The Call of Earth is no exception. This book tells the story of a man fighting his whole life against the influences of god, only to realize that everything he that he does to resist only aids god in his final cause. It puts under the microscope what happens to people when they realize that maybe god isn't all knowing and that sometimes he needs help. The story is also displays humanity at its best (love, compassion, faith, empathy, and the ability to except the ideas of others), and at its worst (Greed, jealousy, lust, religious hysteria, and pride).
The characters are all expanded upon nicely, and a few minor ones come in to the fore ground adding a refreshing change.
The ending could not have been better written and I was not the least bit disappointed.
If you're looking for action and adventure don't read the set. If you're looking for a story that will stick with you your whole life, by all means, indulge yourself!

First of all, compoaring this work with the Enders series is not exactly fair. They are very different series in both direction and intent. Ender's Game was always intended to be a 'deep' book, while the Homecoming series is simply action adventure scifi. In that, it serves its purpose. The problem with this volume is that after the speed of the first book, this one drags out considerably. It seems to take all of the characters to take all the book to get from A to B, when it all could have been done in a few chapters and we could have gone on to C, D, and maybe even ... yes E. Still, it keeps you going, and several new plot elements are put into play, and I am looking forward to the next three books. But to get from Basilica to Earth in three books... I hope Crad pulls his socks up, or rather his character's.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Not as interesting as the Memory of Earth., 28. Januar 2000
Rezension bezieht sich auf: The Call of Earth (Homecoming) (Taschenbuch)
I just didn't find it as interesting as the first book in the series. This entire entry is just an interlude between the first one, which was truly marvelous, and the third one, which was also wonderful, and though it is good enough and has enough interest to get you through it, it is unavoidably apparent that it is just a description of events after and before important occurences in the series. The Call of Earth has not the magic of the sweeping introduction to Basilica that is in Memory, nor the exciting travelogue adventures in The Ships of Earth. This book should have been included as part of either the end of the first book or the beginning of the third. I did, however find it enjoyable enough and worth reading.

5.0 von 5 Sternen FANTASTIC! AS GOOD AS (if not better) THAN HIS BEST!!!!, 16. Januar 1999

Rezension bezieht sich auf: The Call of Earth (Homecoming) (Taschenbuch)
Now.... many may disagree with me about this but this is one of our good friend Orson's BEST books on par with Enders Game and Speaker for the Dead. Now you may be reading these other reviews and seeign a lot of references to Mormon stuff. Well if you, like myself, are not a Mormon do not be alarmed it is perfectly accesible to us all.... and it really is great. The charecters are great, ESPECIALLY Moozh, and the plot is definately cool, it's all about the Oversoul manipulating people through other people and it really is great, end is a bit of an anti-climax but hey, they can't go off finishing things yet!!!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Excellent Continuance of this series, 26. Juli 1996

I burned through this latest paper back book of the series while sitting on a beach in Florida on vacation. It made me forgot about the sun and surf. I was captured by the images and dialogue of the book. This story now takes the extended family we've followed from the start of the series to new discoveries and finally the beginning of the trip home..must read... I'm waiting anxiously for the next book in the series!
Card is a master in developing characters you care about or at least understand. His style is distinctive and memorable. I reco buying all the books in this series and can't wait for the next one.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Fills the pot-hole, 6. Juli 1999
Rezension bezieht sich auf: The Call of Earth (Homecoming) (Taschenbuch)
Well, it's not the same quality as the rest of the road, but it fill the gap between 1 and 3. I still liked it, don't get me wrong, but I still like the Memory of Earth better. And I won't compare it to Ender's Game #1) because I've never read it (I know many of you are shieking right now) #2) because they are different books. Of course it's "no Ender's Game", because it's not. Just cuz the man can't turn out his absolute best every single time, don't hold it against him. It's a good book. If you're reading the whole series, then it's a must-read, just so you don't miss anything.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Definitely worth the read!, 23. Juli 1999
Von Ein Kunde
Rezension bezieht sich auf: The Call of Earth (Homecoming) (Taschenbuch)
This book exemplifies why Card is one of my favorite authors. His characters are multi-dimensional and complex. Nafai is a likeable hero, but not without his faults, and even Elemak (one of Nafai's enemies) has some admirable traits. And Moozh makes a wonderful addition to this story. Yes, I admit some of the dreams were a little transparent, and the politics were a bit tedious, but it's still a great read. It also sets up magnificently for book three, which I couldn't wait to get my hands on after reading this one. Good job, Mr. Card!
