Another good job by former LA crime reporter Connelly who always fills his books with great detail, colorful characters, and the nicotine addicted, pistol-packing cop-on-a-major-ego-trip, Det. Harry Bosch. I really liked this book but I thought the court case was unessecary, Connelly is no Grisham or Turow, which is why I buy his books. I really enjoyed "Trunk Music", "Blood Work" and "The Poet". I would reccomend these later three over the old titles just becuase it seems Connelly has finally found his form. "Blonde" was a good book, but it did have a few problems.

Looking desperately for new authors (having read through everything else in my collection twice), I bought "The Concrete Blonde" on a whim while standing in a Wal-Mart shopping line. I finished it in a little over a day and a half; I couldn't put it down (and wanted to sacrifice everything else to finish it). Subsequently, I inadvertently read the whole Bosch trilogy ("The Last Coyote" had not yet come out) from back to front, then re-read them in the proper order. Connelly can paint a seedy scene with the best of them. Highly recommended, but not for those with weak stomachs

Concrete Blonde drew me in right from the start and I could not put it down. I guess it is true that you can judge a book by it's cover.
I have read all of Michael Connelly's books and enjoyed them all - this one was wonderful. Harry Bosch is a great character and Connelly really expands him and draws us further into his world with each book. He draws the reader in and really allows you to get to know the characters (and not just Harry but the peripheral ones as well).
Concrete Blonde was well written and totally addictive - once you open it you can't put it down!

TREMENDOUS!!! Connelly did it again. Great plot and character development. Michael Connelly is as artful a sculpter of words as Michelangelo was with marble. My only regret is that I did not start at the beginning. I did not start with his first book, THE BLACK ECHO and read his Harry Bosch series in sequential order. ***Please do not make the same mistake. Start with THE BLACK ECHO then go on to the others; you will more fully enjoy Connelly's masterful creations. Also look for his latest--VOID MOON--(coming to a bookstore near you, soon.)

I was browsing through Amazon for new mystery writers and happened upon Connelly. Those who have rated his writings a 10, have not erred, in my estimation. I generally read an hour or two to get drowsy and fall asleep each night. Once I started The Concrete Blonde, I got no sleep. I finished the book in a day and a half. Reminds me of a good movie you want to see again and again. I've picked up my second Connelly book and will start it tonight.

This is the first Harry Bosch book I've read. In fact, it's my first Michael Conelly and I find it very engrossing, entertaining and enlightening. I was hooked with the plot and at the same time, I was being fascinated with the theme of the story -- justice -- how it was being carried out and how people view it. Great. I'm on my way to the books tore to buy The Last Coyote. I can't wait to find out what happened to Bosch's mother.

Really was impressed with this book. Tightly plotted, a genuine "page turner." Bosch has obstacles to overcome on multiple fronts - personal, collegial, external (the press, the murderer) and manages to handle all to a satisfactory end. A totally satisfying read!

Connelly is probably one the best writers of these years. Those of you who like Crumley or Ellroy will be delighted to discover this author. I think that Connelly's book will be sooner or later adapted by one of the majors of Hollywood.

AFTER READING BLOODWORK, I WASN'T SURE I WANTED TO GIVE UP TERRY MCCALEB. HOWEVER, I FOUND MR. BOSCH TO BE A QUITE LIKEABLE CHARACTER. I TRULY ENJOYED THIS NOVEL, AND AM LOOKING FORWARD TO READING THE REST OF CONNELLY'S WORK.
