5.0 von 5 Sternen Classic German 80s metal!!!, 30. März 2002
E. Gaumann (NAPLES, FL USA) - Alle meine Rezensionen ansehen
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Mean Machine (Audio CD)
I just got this CD, finally, after years of waiting. And I have the original vinyl, I burned this album (and their seminal 'Running Hot' album) onto CDR for my own, personal, listening enjoyment before this new CD came out. I've been a huge fan of this band since I first heard of them *way* back in the mid 80s (back when metal was METAL) so I can recommend them to any true metal fan. They play a fairly standard style of post-NWoBHM German metal: in other words stuff like early Grave Digger and Running Wild. There are plenty of German influences; I think they listened to lots of Roth-era Scorps and, of course, Accept. Obvious also is the Priest, Saxon, Maiden influence. They can be pigeon-holed into a Power/somewhat-melodic/kinda speedy metal decription. Their singer sounds rough; like Udo Dirkschneider or Chris Boltendahl, not like the Cookie Monster types of the last 10 years. The singer, "Kerrmit", also sings with a distinct sense of humour. Kinda like Martin Walkyier but without the social commentary. There are lots of sexual innuendo and references to beer drinking and hell raising with a distinct European overtone.
The 3 bonus tracks are studio tracks from the “Blind Revolution” CD which in itself is also recommended (and exceedingly difficult to find).
If you are a fan of late 70s/early 80s metal you can do a lot worse than listen to Tyrant. It's pretty standard stuff, but it does not disappoint, and since I'm a *big* fan of theirs I cannot but rate these guys a full 5 Amazon stars. If you are a fan of German Metal at all get this as these guys have influenced newer bands like Helloween, Blind Guardian and Primal Fear just as much as the aformentioned ‘big guys’. Get this and hope for the rest of their cataloge will be remastered sometime very soon.(...)
