This book was marvelous! The characters were well written, and fit their personalities to the t. As I read this book, I could imagine exactaly what the characters would look like, and how they would act. They adventures were unmatched by any book I have ever read. I enjoyed creating a hero out of a novel character that was used to sitting home, making tea, and eating cakes. It was a magical, mystical book, and J.R.R Tolkien is a model author for all fantasy authors.

There is no doubt that this trilogy is the best fictional work ever created. Tolkien creates a world that has it all- heros, good vs. evil, the little guy or underdog. It is magical how he is able to weave in two great love stories also. The saga between Aragorn and Arwen, and the scorned love turned new love between Faromir and Eowyn. Not to mention the lost love of the Ents. This is truly a magical story. One that will never become outdated or will ever be surpassed.

Forever a classic this one. Gloriously detailed and fully explained along the way, from the villages of Hobbiton to Gondor this is an essential read. Anyone interested in the superb Nintendo64 video game classic "The Legend of Zelda" or George Lucas' epic "Starwars" will feel truly at home. Never before has a fictional world been so detailed and real. Anyone new to the series should read the "Hobbit" first to enjoy and appreciate it more.

The author fills the pages with insight into human nature. Everything from wisdom to foolishness and every thing inbetween. It is the struggle of good verses evil with all of the varied outcomes. It is very well written, not only to the point that I can visualize the scenes but also I can smell the smells. If a person has never read any of Tolkien's tales of Middle Earth it takes a few chapters to figure out the charaters, but well worth the effert. I highly reccommend.

This was the only book I've ever read (and I read like a maniac) that made me cry... I don't remember a relationship so touching as the wonderful friendship of Frodo and Sam. I've often wondered about what might have happened after the end... This book is at the same time both funny and sad, just as is the complex world it depicts. READ IT, it never gets boring despite its three volumes and over 1000 pages. It's simply The Book for me, and for many more to come, I hope...

I first read it when I was 8, and I have
read it countless times since then. Now
at the age of 40, I still find it a wonderful
book to enjoy on a Sunday by the fire,
or on a long train ride. It is a story of
heroism, goblins, wizards, and the magic
that lies in the smallest of people, and
we have all felt small at one time or another.
I highly recommend the purchase of a
hardback and a paperback since you will
loan it to others and it will surely not
come back.

This book is the most exciting and thrilling book I have ever read. This book is about a small Hobbit having adventures with his friends, a wizard called Gandalf and twelve other Dwarfs. They have adventures with large trolls that nearly eat them, they have adventures in rocky mountains, with ugly green Goblins, they pley riddles with Golloum a misterious beast. They travel through a forest with poisonous spiders and in a huge mountain with a fire breating dragon.

J.R.R. Tolkien is one of the masters of Fantasy, and one of the best writers of our time. Anyone who hasn't read this books should. And for anyone has read them, but a while ago, pick them up and read them again. Like I said, they are long, and for most readers it will take two or three months but the time is well worth it. You couldn't buy a better set of books, unless you buy Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time(those that are finished) and maybe some of David Eddings works
