Read a suspenseful piece of literature while learning something about the history of the United States
am 23. April 2009
"The Crucible" is a play that is based on historical documents of the witch trials of Salem, Massachusetts. It is a great piece for somebody that enjoys mysteries designed to leave some aspects fully unacknowledged. Here many questions are left unanswered for the reader to interpret. To my mind, this play is not just interesting due to its catching plot, but also because of its historic relevance. I think that reading "The Crucible" is a good way of being introduced with the trials, and the overall situation. In my opinion, however, it is not a very joyful or romantic plot. Although there are parts of a love affair involved, the general atmosphere is rather burdensome. But, I must say, to be able to fully understand the contents of this play, the reader should have reached certain knowledge of the English language. I have studied English for about 9 years now, and still had trouble reading some passages. On the other hand, if background information to the Salem trials already exists, I would claim that the comprehension of the story should be accomplishable.
To sum up, in my opinion, this play is a must forthose that do not care for love stories or action thrillers, and it should definitely be considered by anyone who is not sure what type of book he or she prefers.
